Just kidding. I haven’t cut the CF tube yet. Looked so dumb I just had to post a pic to get reactions. But the TJ is in and I am just trying to control barrel harmonics right now. Groups keep shrinking but not there yet. This shroud will have an integrated baffle system and be about 2in longer than stock.
I put the exact same barrel in the same caliber that I have on another bullpup. I figured this might be easy and it will like the same slugs at the same speed. NOT!!! Like I said I am now focused on the harmonics of my barrel. I did some things that really helped but I will have to take some pics and post them later.
The Priest have i think around 35cc volume of plenum which is good, but extra plenum is better... Lower pressure of the regulator is good for better harmonics of the whole airgun.
I drilled and tapped the frame where the shroud goes through. Then I built Delrin bushings for those same areas. I am trying to trick my barrel into believing it’s only 8 inches long. It made a significant difference in group sizes. I couldn’t get a 15mm slug barrel and had to go with a 9/16. Had a piece of 15mm barrel so I built a sorta thimble to get a nice fitting barrel. About 8hrs on that project. Trying not to mess with my pellet setup. I don’t even use the same reg or bottle. If the slug thing goes south, I just want to bolt the pellet shooting setup back on and live happily ever after. It’s a crazy good gun on 25gr pellets. Just want to see if it can be my new slugger or not.
All done and back together. Integrated baffle system is in there but after so many hours on my lathe building it, I am nervous about the first shot. Hate to be disappointed.
Looks good. Now go see if you can blow the baffles out of it. Make sure you try all of the slug brands out there before giving up on it. Hope it all works out in the end.
Ok I just fired 3 shots at 35yrds with JSB Heavy 33.95gr. One .30cal hole in target and dead silent at over 60fpe. Now if the darn thing will just shoot slugs. Not wasting any more until my sizing stuff gets here.
Couldn’t help myself this morning. Fired 3 different slugs. All groups still stink at 35yrds. Drives tacks with pellets so I know the work I have done probably isn’t the problem. Crazy how my other bullpup with the exact same barrel and caliber is so accurate. I need to take a time out and mess with my Prod or something.
Where did you get the carbon fiber tube? I like a lot what you did there. Is the end cap the same you had with the rifle before or one of these from Donny
I ordered the tube from somebody on amazon. I made my end cap on my lathe. The internal silencing that I came up with is as good as or better than how the gun sounded with a can hanging off the end of it, which I hated. It’s shorter now also.
Cleaning my barrel now so I figured I would take a pic of what I put in my shroud. I left one inch between the end of the barrel and the beginning of the air stripper. I also put one vent hole in shroud. The first baffle/stripper is attached to the shroud with a button head screw. Then I just load all the other stuff in and put on the end cap also with a button head screw. Very very quiet gun.
This is what the Texan should be! I cant believe AirForce has not completely re-designed their ancient guns yet. 800 fpe is cool, but who wants to be hunting and have to dig for the next round of ammunition for a follow up shot.
What is the length of the barrel? How many inches did you leave for the baffles? .22 or.25?
Edit: I noticed you answered my second question with your picture while I was typing my question!
