Snowpeak Preordered my MAX1

Hopefully most guys will get their max 1 rifle soon that pre-ordered. A few things I wasn't expecting. There is no 1/2x20 thread on the end of the barrel. I have ordered baffles to go in the space at the end of the shroud. They will be coming to Texas so for those that want those hopefully they'll be available in a few weeks.
The guns are set quite high on the regulator from the factory. 180-200 bar.
On the plus side you can fill the rifle all the way to 300bar.
The 25 was shooting 33gr around 940fps on the one I tried.
Not sure if you turn down the reg if that will speed up or slow down. Haven't had any time to play with it, just tested one for a customer.

Wes, thanks for the update, and thanks for ordering the internal baffles we can all use for our Max 1's.

Questions:
- Is there no thread at all on end of barrel, or it's just not 1/2x20 thread?
- If it's got a different thread, do you know what it is and have adapter so we can all use our 1/2x20 moderators?

Yes it has a very thin cap and a female thread on the end of the shroud so an adapter can be made. I'll check the size and see about getting adapters made right away.
The other sad thing is that there will only be one magazine in each box.
Snowpeak made a strange error in the rush to get the guns out and sent the max 1 with no magazine at all in the boxes.
When I found that out after they shipped I of course asked them to send me them separately asap and to send two for each rifle. They did send them but only sent one each which I sadly discovered after the rifles arrived. I apologize for that. I wanted to give a second one as a thank you to all that preordered and waited.
The good news is that zelos and m60 mags will fit in the max and work just fine. I did not have enough mags to add one of those or I would have. The max mags are a bit deeper to allow heavier slugs and won't fit the zelos or m60. . I've asked them to send the other mag for each rifle now so we'll see when they arrive.

Thanks,
Wes

Thank you Wes. As always, you are very upfront and straightforward. Somethings you can control, and somethings you can't. So be it.

An adapter for the shroud and those baffles will surely help as I'll bet this high power gun can get loud.

Great news about the Zelos and M60 mags! We now have additional options. Of course, I have a Zelos .25 and Max 1 .22, but that's my problem :).

Ratzy on the other max1 thread posted this

Shroud thread is m28x1
Donny AeA Models
A83 for 1/2-20
A91 for M18x1

When I bought mine at Alamo AG the packaging just said AEA Challenger. Didn't have a model #. I think I got the .357 version because the hole measures just a big bigger then that.

I wonder if lowering the reg pressure will increase the power. 190-200 bar is pretty high set point. I'm going to go to the range tomorrow and do some testing with it and will post the results.

In your other thread, you said you used the A91 M18x1 adapter for the Max 1. If the Shroud is M28x1 according to Ratzy, how were you able to thread the A91 M18x1 adapter on to it? The thread sizes are different.

I appreciate the input on this. Thanks.

M18x1 is the moderator thread
Alternative to the 1/2-20
A91 is M28x1 gun side, m18x1 moderator side.

I haven't used any yet, I had a m28x1 male adapter for a different use and screwed it into the shroud. Then I ordered an A83

Thanks for the additional clarification...

I guess I'll order an A83 too, as all my moderators are 1/2x20.

I did mount a scope and get it sighted.
Dropped 3 rounds at 25 yards in a very tight group. Put it on the chrony when adapter arrives.

190 bar definitely the factory setting on the reg.

My only complaint, so far, a 2 slot picatinny on the bottom. Found a 3 to 5 slot riser in my parts and mounted that. Then I could mount my ARCA adapter

action is smooth and easy.

Does need a moderator, not terribly loud but a very sharp report.

Trigger is okay, ill look into loosening it up a bit when I get the adapter.

Up to 12.5 lbs with scope and ARCA.

I got to the range this morning and did some testing. Didnt have enough time to thoroughly test it but got some results. Seems to like .218 sized slugs better then .217. Only shot at 100m and best slugs were the .218 26g Javelins, .218 H&N 30g and .218 28g Zans. All were about 1.5MOA. I didn't clean the barrel but will do before I go back this weekend. Action is nice and smooth and the trigger is good with just a bit of creepy in the 2nd stage which should smooth out.

Even better is the EagleVision UPPR-120.
A VERY solid adapter. Appear to be a single billet cut on a CNC

Got back to the range today. Tested the reg from 140 bar up to 210 with the Jav .218 30g and worked thru the hammer spring adjustments which don't seem make much adjustments in speed.
140bar 620-650
150 bar 840-860
170 bar 850-880
180 bar 880-912
190 bar 905-920
210 bar 930-960

Tested a couple slugs as well did 3 shot groups for most bc I was low on air but the best groups at 210bar were the cast Huben peanut 35g .2169 and .2173 I got from Sonny Slugs
Had a 15mph crosswind and I was getting shots pulled to the right with the crosswind.

These didn't do well today, I rate poor as over 2"

JSB MRD 1010-1020 poor
JSB Beast 930-940 poor
JSB Grand 980-985 poor
JSB MRD 1020-1030 poor
Wildman 26g 1017-1025 poor

.2169 Huben 35g 930-940
.2173 Huben 35g 930-940

Didn't have my calipers but the circled groups are the cast Huben style slugs.

Received my A83 M28x1 to 1/2-20 moderator adapter. Works perfectly, mounted a Reximex Silent Force moderator and loaded up H&N Heavy Slug .25 2.72gram/42grain.

Not bad 848fps with the factory settings. I think i have some heavier slugs I will try next.

Trigger is acceptable, haven't measured it but it wasn't Hatsan bad.

Magazine holds 18 rounds. Which is big for .25. Just would like more.

Not the most accurate at 25 yards, 3/4 groups. Still going to make a raccoon regret messing with the chickens.

Long top side picatinny rail.
Bottom is a ridiculous 2 slot.
I attached an eaglevisioncam.com UPPR-120 extension. Very solid single piece construction, highly recommended, for my ARCA mount.

Fits my frame well, I'm a big guy and I'd like a little more LOP but it is in the acceptable range.

Did a partial tear down today since I was getting some binding at the end of the cocking stroke. I ended up adjusting the bolt probe forward a turn and it's binds less and the bolt probe sits more flush with the barrel TP * hat tip to Steve on the Zelos FB page.

Some things I noticed in the partial tear down..

-Barrel OD for .22 is 13.5mm which is a smaller OD the Zelos 15mm OD barrel.

-Barrel TP is 4mm

- This may be unique to mine but they drilled the barrel grub screws on the wrong side and had to do it on the correct side after the barrel was blued.

-Trigger has less over travel then my Zelos and the put a return spring.

-Hammer and hammer housing are different from the Zelos.

I'm not impressed so far.
Advertised 120 joules/88FPE with .22 slugs
I'm getting 90 joules/66FPE with .25 slugs or pellets.

Everything bog standard factory setup other than the moderator.

Anyone getting over 100 joules/75FPE?

It does like the JTS pellets below but well under powered.

H&N 46gr heavy slug.

I'm getting 70fpe with the 35g cast peanut slugs but at 210 bar.

The 4mm barrel TP is anemic. I didn't get to the valve but I'm assuming it wasn't opened up enough. Seems like they got all the other things you'd need to do to make big power but neglected to open the ports up.
