Tuning Powerhouse valve, regulated?

Building a few .25 Cothran valve-Mrod’s and while speaking with Don about the valve design, we discussed trying a regulator in one build. He told me if regulated above 1600 psi and with an xl plenum the valve should be fine operationally as the valve spring is really only needed for filling and low pressures. I know its NOT what the valve was designed for, the other two builds im doing are the straight power setups, just wanted to experiment with this one. Has anyone tried a regulator and Cothran valve?

Yeah I built a 30 marauder with a bottle reg at like 1900 psi it works well to control the valve other wise you get what is called a Korean cliff is where the you get a decending shot string the only way not to get that is to regulate the valve

Member here ... Scotchmo runs a Cothrin powerhouse in his REGULATED 257 cal Armada based slug gun with great success.

My WAR Flex .35 cal came regulated and installed with cothran valve. Shoots awesome. I have had the reg set as high as 3500psi down to 1750psi, shooting everything from 81gr pellets to 110/120/140gr NSA slugs.

Not only do people do it , I thinks it’s the best way to use this valve. The way the valve is designed the only way to control the pellet speed is with the air pressure. In .257 I use 2500 psi and it makes 140FPE. The only problem with this type of set up is getting a big enough plenum to feed it .
