Portable Generator

Not to mess with your plan of the yong heng but I actually just picked up the XISICO GX-E-CS3 COMPRESSOR for on the go and at home fills. I will say I do have the yong heng to fill up my large scba tanks but I live in a condo and its to loud and sometimes I just want to top off my gun, this new compressor is very quiet and perfect for what I needed it can be hooked up to a car battery for in the field no need for a generator. Just a thought and feel free to pm me if you have questions.

I wonder whether one could wire a big inexpensive capacitor into the system, to allow compressor start-up to require lower amperage from the generator. Then a smaller and less expensive generator could be purchased.

Like the 'soft start' capacitors they sell for RV air conditioning units (which are just fancy compressors).

I'm sure there are some electricians on AGN.

YOU STOLE MY IDEA!!!

You mean like this one? It's already there from the factory.

I just went through this decision.

Bought a Honda EU2200i for $1100 and runs my Hill EC-3000 compressor very nicely. I know there are less expensive generator options but I am a 'buy once, cry once' when it comes to critical things like generators, lawn mowers, welding equipment etc...

All of my Honda and Stihl tools start with one pull and EVERY TIME.

If you just want to fill your guns, I bought <300 knock off portable compressor. Filled around 40 times. I think it settled in after around 10,. More than satisfied. Throw it in the truck on road trips w/ 1 tank (maybe). Simplify your solution. Explore the possibilities. Any one had trouble with their portable. Like I said mine is knock off and took a month to get it from China. Had it since March. MORE than satisfied so far.

Well, both ideas use capacitors, I guess. I'm no electrical engineer, so I have no clue as to how large a capacitor would be needed to actually run a compressor. I'm just a guy who has had RVs, and I have installed a 'soft start kit' capacitor on a travel trailer's air conditioning unit so that I could run, but more importantly start the AC unit with a smaller, less powerful and less costly generator.

And is still requires 18+ amps to start up?

Sportsman Dual Fuel @ 4000/3500 is a great price and if it screws up you can take it back to HD! It's an expensive thing to ship should there be a warranty repair issue.

I don't have any experience with that particular generator, but dual fuel types certainly are very nice to have in general (like for emergency use at home). While it won't be as efficient running on LPG as it will be using gas, a few inexpensive propane tanks you can get at Costco will keep you going for a while. And the propane virtually stores forever as compared to gasoline which you need to keep rotating for other uses so it stays fresh (even if you use fuel stabilizer).

I do my gambling in the casino ( almost never) and bought a Honda EU2200i. They work and the Honda dealer is 2 miles from house if there's ever an issue.
