Poligonal Lothar Walter barrel vs Normal Lothar Walter barrell

Polygonal barrels work best with heavier pellets pushed tl higher speeds.

Polygonal is smoother on pellets. It's more like a smooth twist. The .22 polygonal barrel is amazing accuracy for Redesigns and those thing are pushed fast, but it is because of the pellet, not the barrels. If you have a 25 poly barrel, it will shoot MKII at 840 great because that is just the speed the pellets shoot best at. That's my understanding.

As above a poly profile imparts less deformation to the skirt, therefore BC etc. are less affected and this can make a difference at long distances, for this reason as also said above pellets need to be pushed faster in a poly barrel in order to impart the same rotational effect as standard rifling would do at lower speeds.

I cant say I have noticed heavier fouling from poly barrels though, except when shooting slugs which is the case when shooting slugs in an barrel type.

I presume you mean the smooth twist was designed to be closer to a poly profile? I shoot the 34g MKII at 970-980 from my Redwolf & my Impact and it works really well at those speeds.

Here’s my opinion on this subject, “good, bad, or indifferent”, both poly and 12 groove or traditionally rifled-barrels(land & groove) can be equally accurate, some say that the grooved barrels are more effected by wind or external conditions more? Maybe at long ranges say 100yd. But I haven’t noticed this, ”that I Can truly quantify!” some also say that there’s a better seal at skirt with poly barrels?, maybe? the sharp profile of lands and groove’s of a grooved barrel this seal isn’t as good? Could be? But many variables with both( antimony of the lead in the pellet etc.) I feel the choke takes care of most of these issues? Some say you have to shoot pellets faster thru a poly barrel? I think personally that depends more on profile and weight of the pellet vs. the barrel? In the end both styles can be super accurate or a dud!
