Please Recommend

I have a Red Rider and a BB pistol, but they lack the energy to use with any Airgun dueling tree that I know of. The dueling tree I’m looking at requires at least 7 ft/lbs of energy, and I’ve read that the Red Rider has about 1 ft/lb of energy.

I have some pump and charged rifles and pistols, including a Steyr LP10, but I want a semi auto or single action rifle and/or pistol with enough energy to use with the dueling tree. I’d prefer BB, but pellet would be better than nothing. I shoot CAS, so I think some single action revolvers and lever action rifles would be extra fun and good practice, but I’ll take what I can get. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Tweeter! Those look like just the ticket. They don’t seem all that pricey to me, but I guess I’m spoiled. Now I wonder if there is a single action colt replica available.

Thanks again. I wonder what the energy is for a steel BB traveling 410 FPS. I’ll try to google it so you don’t feel overburdened.

Well, the good news is that I found a muzzle energy calculator. The bad news is that the revolver produces about 2 ft/lbs of energy and the bb rifle produces about 4. So neither one can be used with the dueling tree.

I think the Walther pellet rifle might work. It says it produces 600 ft/sec, but does not specify a grain. If I used 10 grain pellets or higher that would yield 8 ft/lbs or more of energy, but I don’t know if the Walther can produce 600 ft/sec with that grain pellet, or if it requires a lower weight to exhibit that speed. Any idea?

Seems like maybe I should just get this type of target instead. I still want a dueling tree, but I don’t know if it’s realky doable.

If you want to shoot bb's then I think your best bet would be a new target. BB guns just don't make much power.



I've been catching up on some Hickok45 videos and it makes me want to get a few of these old replica guns to play with haha. I think he used to do a little cowboy action shooting back in the day didn't he? Aldso like watching Jerry Miculek's trick shots.

Here is a photo of my backyard range. I’ve been practicing various sweeps and also styles, such as gunfighter. Gave me the confidence to shoot gunfighter category for the first time at my most recent CAS match.
