please help a new guy

I want to buy my first high quality spring piston air rifle. I target shoot and take the occasional squirrel. I am torn between the Beeman R9 .22 and the RWS model 34 .22. I do not know if this matters but I am an iron sight guy. any advice is appreciated. Glad to find you guys, I am sure I will enjoy your information.

If i were you ill go with rws. Or if u can afford the .22 air arms tx200 mk3. Its good in the longer run very accurate too with tuned spring at @100yards

If it were me,I would go for the R9...but thats just my opinion. A little bit more money,a little better build quality. You really can't go wrong either way but to me,the Beeman/HW has nicer visual appeal.

IMHO it is a coin toss, I think you are going to find this a ford vs chevy kind of thing, I would go RWS.



Both are great guns.

While the TX200 is widely regarded as one of the best springers, it doesn't have iron sights. FYI

Thanks, I knew that I would have to find sights for that gun. That was a little disconcerting for me so I have not considered it. I am not against optics but I always want a fail safe option. I run both on some of my firearms and I must be able to see the irons under the sights. Thanks for your reply.

Are these the only two guns you are considering? If you are open to other options, check out the HW77 or the HW50. 

The 77 is very appealing option. It has a fixed barrel, comes with iron sights, and it’s available in a really nice laminate option. Check out link below, reputable vendor with great prices.

+1 on the r9. Jsb 8.4 @ 900 fps a real Lazer. Some will tell you the .20 or .22. Don't buy the hope. You will be more then happy with the the .177 and the varmints will hate you.

I'm shooting the hw95 .22 from AOA and loving it. I bought the Williams peep sight for it and shooting beer cans at 55yrds without a miss, I'm trying to resist putting a scope on it as i have 2 pcp's with scopes for target shooting etc. The hw95 is very light to carry and shoot without a scope.I have been shooting the H&N field target trophy 14.66gr average speed 677fps.Very happy with this rifle.

5 shots 55yrds peep sight.

Rws 34 awesome accurate no frills unsexy gun that will last a lifetime and inexpensive

Beeman R9 just as good and maybe better looking but more money.

Either way you cant go wrong. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

The hw95 is basically an R9 with open sights. Of the two guns on your list, IMHO the hw95 is the higher quality choice. I’d also suggest .177 over .22 in a quality springer.

both are harder to cock than your hw30s......but there's a guy selling a .22 model 34 t06 for about $150....the newer model 34 t06's have a choked barrel, and while they are more accurate (due to that and the better trigger) ,they dont shoot quite as hard as the older ones...i've had probably 3 of each cal of those........ but the r9 is a better gun....i have had a few in every caliber but .25..... 5mm was the best in my opinion - with vortek kit is was awesome ! there's been some hw95's listed on american airguns classifieds lately....and there's an hw85 on there now...
