Please explain this paradox

So every time I see a review or specs for a British gun they show shot count per fill on any given rifle as higher in .22 than .177. Why is this? It would stand to reason that it takes more power to push more weight. So why do they claim higher shot counts for .22?

Because of their tyrannical government, the Brits are limited to 12 FPE. .22 and .177 caliber rifles are both set to 12 FPE. .22 cal. pellets are heavier and the valve timing is more efficient than with the lighter .177 cal, which tend to waste air. End result is higher shot count in .22 than .177. Here in the States, our tyrannical government still allows higher power output and guns that can be tuned to be efficient for whatever weight and caliber pellets. We can optimize our guns for whatever pellet we choose.

it is correct.
very simple. A .22 detuned to the exact power output like a .177 (11.5fpe) has lower air consumption.
It is more efficient. imagine that.

The air has more surface to push on so neednt push as hard, sort of.

yes, .177 is less efficient. the shotcount gain is mainly down to the reduction of power. so basically in the UK they run at 1/3 of power, and they have double shotcount.
roughly 30% the difference in efficiency. .25 is similar
