Please explain about shooting slugs (which barrels)

I am wondering if I can shoot slugs out of my .25 cal Ataman M2. Its rated at 980 FPS with 55 foot pounds. Here is the barrel data:

  • Barrel data (diameter, number of grooves, choke, twist): 15mm/12/choked/450mm/1:18

Also, I don't really understand if slugs are good out of chocked barrels or non-chocked barrels...and why. ...If anyone cares to explain that to me and the rest of the class.

Thanks! -Nate

Depends how tight the choke is and what weight vs length if theyre stable.

Strelok pro lets you punch in diameter-length-twist rate-speed to give you a value to tell you if it should be stable or not. Longer the slug the harder it is to stablize.

I use a LW unchoked polygon with good results some people use choked barrels too. Buy a sampler from nsa or drig and give some a try.

Hey Nate,.. I shoot slugs out of all of my airguns. All are choked except my Cothran 308 with a tj barrel. Sizing and proper length/weight for the twist is imperative. That 1-18 twist rate I have in my ace .25 and shoots slugs in the 45-51 grain very well when sized properly, for this barrel it’s .251. My .25 armada shoots 33,37,45 grain swagged well, and 38,41,48 grain bbt. Sized to .249, the green mountain barrel is choked. You will be sizing for the choke size. Best way to know is buy a sampler pack from Dale Riggert here on agnation or Nielsen ammo ( what Glen said) Rick Morrill on eBay has cast ammo. All are great guys to deal with and their packaging and shipping times are first rate. If you can, slug your barrel and the get some sizing dies from noe. I don’t have a press, I push them through by hand, though I don’t recommend that, it’s tough on the fingers😉

I think that gun should do well , I think the guns that have 54-57 foot pounds

are a excellent choice for shooting slugs , get some slugs and try them out

it's the only way to know if it will shoot them or not . And if a airgun can shoot

a pellet it can shoot a slug try shooting something in the 33-36 grain .
