Places for hunting

When I lived in NYC, my buddy and I hunted Upstate and the easiest way was to stop at the roadside fruit and vegetables stands, buy a bunch of stuff, strike up a conversation with the sellers and eventually get to the "you must have a pest problem" part of the conversation. A lot of the time we got permission to hunt their property. Another way to go was by going to the pick-your own farms and run the same routine. If they do not have locals already hunting their property you might get lucky. You can also try the apple orchards, again "pick-your own" type of business.

Also, on the lines of the fruit stand, you should try the local feed stores. Ask the help if they have any customers complaining of pest problems. This strategy has worked for years with my peers.

Good luck, and hope you have fun!

Edit: I forgot to add you can also call ahead, before you get there this way. The help will usually direct you to the owners of the permission.

This. I live in NY. My wife's parents own property upstate, and they hunt various permissions as well as have their own property. And before you ask, they will not tell their secrets or allow any "outsiders" on their property...

As also suggested, feed stores, etc. My coworker has a permission upstate, but it can get sticky. One brother that owns the property is ok with it, the other brother not so much....so be careful to get full permision and know the boundries...

Never been in upstate NY but I would start by checking out any New York state forests or WMA(wildlife management areas). Some state forests are designated as "multi use areas" and include hunting.

Your on you own finding out if you can carry anything to hunt with in NY.

Lol. You can carry plenty.....but I agree NY isn't exaclty firearm friendly by any stretch of the imagination...

A word of caution, while hunting in NY, an airgun is considered a "firearm" with all applicable considerations. For example, your moderator might become an NFA item or the length of your barrel might turn it into something you're supposed to have in the great state of NY.... should they (DEC, state police, prosecutor) choose to go after you - they will have those options.

Air gun—a firearm that uses spring or compressed air (not gunpowder) to propel a single projectile that is .17 caliber or larger and produces a muzzle velocity of at least 600 feet per second. You may use a smooth or rifled bore
