Pigeons Hit Some, Missed Some

LOL, those are some seriously dumb birds to just keep coming back. Wish I could find a place like that to hunt. Don't know how those taste, but I accidentally shot someones carrier pigeon once during dove season and was delighted to find it tasted just like dove. It had the exact same colors and markings as a morning dove - just bigger - so I gave it a try and found it identical when roasted with garlic and butter.

This seemed to be a new bigger flock of pigeons. I was there for about two hours and each return to the silo took longer. After awhile they will wise up. Bill

Bill,

Sorry, just woke up.

It's not that they like to, but unless hurried, they will always land directly into the wind. It's the nature of flight.

When you had a couple of misses and didn't know the wind direction, I knew it was from the right due to the pigeons coming in to land from the left.

Keep up the good work.....the more you do it the easier it gets.

:)

The other give away was when I hit one the direction of the feathers flew. LOL

I’ve shot under similar situations and I think I noticed a number of shots which seemed like hits and the birds did not drop. I’m basing that on hearing the “thump” of the bullet strike . Do you agree? I’ve had that happen more then I like .

Believe me those birds will learn

Yes I heard a few impact pops and the birds flew off. Shooting the dome head pellets like the Air Arms at 25.4 grains at 900 fps will zip through with less damage than a hollow point. The problem is at longer distances and in the wind you almost have to use a dome pellet to maintain long range accuracy and lessen wind drift. Bill
