A very cost-effective way to bring hogs to a specific spot is a scratching post
I have used everything from a T-Post driven in the ground wrapped with diesel soaked burlap to creosote telephone and train cross ties, The last two last the longest and you can usually find some discards.
Around here I just go to my electric company and explain what I am doing and can usually walk away with a good 4-foot scrap piece. I have some roofing buddies and can get some discarded tar or bucket scraping from them that I will heat and mix some diesel with it to thin it down and paint on ( this will also work with the Post and any old dried out thirsty wood) a good thick coat to rejuvenate and make it smell.
It works best if you stand the posts up but it's not totally necessary with RR Ties or phone poles.
The stronger the smell the better
Why does it work, Feral hogs are smart they know that the petroleum acts as a bug deterrent (flea tick mosquito), I have seen nothing but a scraping pole bring pigs in, No Feed or anything else.
