Picked up a little garage sale fun...

.22 Crosman 1400 with a decent stock. Paid $20 for it. Won't cock or hold air so, I'm going to have some fun rebuilding it! I might sand down and refinish the stock as well. I saw some rebuild kits on Ebay for $50 but, if anyone knows a better less expensive place to get a kit, please let me know. 


I especially like the grain on this side.

Before you spend that $50 for the kit, research Youtube (very good two part video) and anotherairgunblog for a very good series on the gun. The only o-ring I had trouble finding was the square section quad seal. If I can find where I ordered it, I'll post the web site.

This is a nice addition if you want to install a scope or red dot sight. It tightens down snug around the barrel.

I have an old .pdf manual of the 1400 and its rated at 610fps with 10 pumps. The manual does not mention what pellet was used. I was pleasantly surprised to see the results. The rifles manufacture date was 1972.
I rebuilt a similar Crosman model 140 (1965) and the velocity at 10 pumps using 11.9gr RWS Hobby averaged 650fps 11.2fpe

Looks to be in pretty good shape! And wadcutter, those adaptor mounts look like they'll fit my Model 160 receiver. Been looking high & low for some kind of adaptor to fit the 3-9x32 off the Winchester onto the 160.

I am getting ready to order the rebuild kit since winter is setting in already. I'm wondering if I need to order anything else...

Question: When I hold the gun up the pump handle falls down about 6-8 inches. Will resealing it fix this or is there possibly something else going on?

The Crosman 1400 doesn't have a link spring like the Sheridan and Benjamins. Make sure to adjust the pump rod to where the piston seal bottoms out and you have about 1/4 inch left between the pump handle and the compression cylinder before the pump handle fully closes. It may take a several times adjusting to get it perfect. It will also boost efficiency and guarantee the pump handle will not drop.
