Photographing airguns.....

Been working ona 3d printed stock for my Chaser. Have gotten to a point I felt needed some feedback, and tried to take a snapshot and send to a friend for critiquing. Printed it with shiny black PLA.... and all the picture shows is a skinny black blob with some CF tube hanging off one end.

Tried flash on, flash off, multiple lights from differnt angles and multpile lights at the same time....all gave the licorice popsicle result.......

Who's got a decent tutorial for fotographing airguns?

You mean a photo like this one?:

Put the rifle in good, natural light with a suitable background.

In sounds like your camera is in the auto mode and is trying to adjust the exposure to a light colored background since that's what it "sees" the most. It's just like taking a photo of a black car on a white sandy beach with a bright overcast sky. The sky and the sand may look good in the photo but the car will be underexposed.

Try putting your camera in the "backlit" mode. Try it with and without flash. Now you're telling your camera what to expect. It compenstes and adds brightness to your subject by slowing the shutter speed or opening up the lens.

It might also help to darken your background a little. The camera won't have to think as hard.

Google "Backlit photography" and see what pops up. Good luck.
