Penetration difference between the 10% and 20% ballistics gel

Here's the difference between the Alphabet org spec and NATO spec ballistics gel as far as penetration experiments go. The were shot at 10 yards with NSA's .30 caliber 60 grain HP-FB slugs @ 902-4 FPS. Expansion of the slugs was nearly identical, but penetration goes to the softer Alphabet org block by 1.5" The softer block probably more resembles animal flesh.

Not sure why having a media that close is really done.

I am sure that Alphabet org 10% ordinance gel is a very strict protocol of procedure and none of it is ever "clear". It is done that way for a reason, and in the end resembles the density of human muscle tissue with an average for organs and hollow space built in. That "average" was a secondary perc and not really a goal. IIRC.

No matter what people or sales say, clear gel isn't ordinance gel and it isn't measured, cured, temperature correct, with calibration shots. They are getting closer with the commercial gel, but not there for the above reasons. Doing it right is a real PITA, so send some love to the reviewers that actually do it by the numbers.

I am not sure whether the Clear Ballistics Company, who advertises making their gel to a government standard, is actually doing so but it would seem that is the case. Per their testing of these particular blocks it is rated to a Alphabet org and CIA standard and comes with a certification type of document even.

Either way, when I do my testing I turn the power down and set my velocity at whatever the pellet or slug would be traveling at given the farthest range of my hunting distances. The StrelockPro and Chairgun App's both show trajectory, velocity and energy, but they do not show what that actual energy, expansion and penetration looks like at 100 or more yards. I then choose my projectile based on the characteristics and evidence that I get from the blocks and the game I am hunting.
