Pellets For My Birthday

Not a bad gift to myself. First ever order from PA, too. Nice. Very well packed.

Thanks for the free ornament, PA!

I have a question about pellet quality. This is my second purchase based on a member's recommendation. I was nonplussed by the quality of the pellets from the first purchase. I removed the lids of all these tins and noticed several deformed skirts on the top layer of pellets in every tin. I'm having a bad feeling about these pellets.

Is this normal? Do most people go through each tin and just chuck the irregulars? Is there a skirt straightener?

I have to say that so far, no pellet has compared to the quality of the Crosman Copper Magnum 10.6 grain pellets. Any recommendations on good alloy pellets? The lead pellets just don't seem to be able to keep their shape.

Yes that seems to be the norm nowadays. Lots of times the blast of air from the shot straightens the skirt enough. If I have a tin with a lot I usually go thru it and use a field point from my archery box that I have ground down the tip on. I just place it into the skirt end and rotate with a little pressure.

I made one for .177 and .22. All I did was chuck the point in my drill press and use a file to get the point round. I then used sand paper and a polishing wheel to get it super smooth.

Here is a pic of the ones I made along side of the style tip I made each from.

You ever think of packaging/selling? Or do they already exist?

Never thought to try and sell. I just do stuff for myself to save $$ and make things work better. I'm certain if you go into Home Depot, Lowes or your local hardware store you could probably fine something to work pretty cheaply. Take the pellet with you. There are lots of parts with rounded ends in those drawers in the hardware isle. Thing made for shelves, for furniture and such.

You could probably use the end of a #8 or #10 brass round head bolt.

Good ideas. I started to think of old, busted drill bits that I seem to hold onto.

Well, I got into the JSB Test sampler and started with the 8.3 grain Straton, the pointed ones. I had bad luck with the Crosman pointed, so I figured I'd get these outta the way.

My goodness, these are a "cut above" brand of pellet. I am very impressed. They seat "just" right in the breach. Not too tight, not to loose.

This is the best five shot group of my life.
