Pellet size trial

Bought a sample pack of H & N pellets.

8.64 FTT and 10.65 Barracuda Match

Group 1 8.64 FTT 4.50

Group 2 10.65 Barracuda Match 4.50

Group 3 10.65 Barracuda Match 4.51

Group 4 10.65 Barracuda Match 4.52

Group 5 8.64 FTT 4.51

With the 10.65 Barracuda Match the 4.50 did the best and the different diameter made quite a bit of difference

You can try to back the power down to shoot between 800fps and 888fps max to get better groups. Probably less than half way on the power wheel for the 10gr ammo and under half way (try 1/3 power) for 8gr.

That's assuming you are shooting your AA S510. They are more accurate even shooting 650fps - 800fps. Way better than shooting past 888fps where your accuracy gets bad. Keep the power low when shooting that 177 Air Arms if you want smaller groups. Definitely keep it under 888fps.

Odoyle is right. In my S500 I was plagued with flyers with many different weights, head sizes, and shapes. I was tearing my hair out. Fiddled with barrel, baffles, barrel band, even re-did the bedding in the stock to no avail. After reading on this site, I slowed it down to about 860-870 fps and whammo: sub-half-inch 50 yard 5 shot groups all day long. Using AA 10.3 gr pellets in .177.

How can you even know this O'doyle? You aren't even shooting their guns over a chronograph. You don't even know what speed their guns shoot at in relation to their power wheel setting to even estimate what position their power wheel needs to be at? How can you know as much as you do? I have been following you reading your replies and it's quite shocking how much you know and guess so spot on in many instances. I'm not dissing you. I just can't believe how someone can be so right at guessing that's all.
