Pellet shortage?

Right off the bat, how many million shooters in the US are looking for the same pellets you are...lol. How many new shooters joined the ranks when the pb ammo shortage hit, they want to shoot something, so they bought an air rifle or 5. Europe got smacked by Covid as hard or worse than we did, had/has the same lockdowns we do although slowly? easing up. I live in NY, we have Cuomo playing dictator to qualify that comment :)

Means everything to do with production cut at least in half: half staff or maybe less depending on their restrictions, maybe half the usual machines running. Shipping? Same nightmare for companies everywhere. Retailers would love to have product and even when they do, out come those millions of shooters who've been scanning their site and a dozen others daily trying to even get one or 2 tins of their must have brand/weight/style. I'm actually surprised retailers haven't put limits on how many tins you can purchase instead of getting a pallet or if they're lucky 2 pallets of pellets and have them wiped out 2 or 3 days later.

Won't say it's not hoarding having seen members on several forums say they plan on buying enough to last them a year when something hits the shelves but the airgunning ranks have been swelled a lot plus long time shooters trying to buy.

Rumor has it JSB just got a US delivery so start stalking the retailers....lol.

I talk to one of the guys at Predator International who imports JSB and he shows pics of every trailer load they receive. He just posted some a few days ago including .30 Hades. I still wonder where they are going but we are finding some retailers with them in stock but not pyramydair. If you think pellets are hard to find there are several lines of air guns that are pretty much impossible to get new right now I found this out yesterday. Went online found a site that said in stock, called them to ask a couple of questions and they said it would be weeks minimum before they might have what I wanted.

Your last 40 tins? Many different calibers I presume

I shoot .20, 22 and 25 caliber. I am retired with a shooting range in my back yard. I probably go thru 2-3 tins a week. Every month when I get my SS check. I order 200.00 worth of pellets whether I need them or not. Last year shooting buddies mocked me for buying 2 cases (6000) rounds of Ely 22lr. Now they're begging me to sell them some, NOPE!

Why cant someone make good quality pellets in the states?

I'd guess something to do with production cost and priorities.

As in, US factories might not have the expertise/experience to make similar quality pellet, for the same $$... and US factories are working overtime producing powder burner bullets, why should they try to start something "new to them" when their capacities are already stretched,

Buy from MidwayUSA at your own risk!!

Been very widely noted on any number of forums that Midway packs pellets even worse than Amazon and most buyers end up getting badly dented tins and bent pellets. IF you're lucky, you'll get them in a box but with NO packing material or very little. Mine several years back came loose and bouncing around in a padded shipping envelope that spent 5 days getting tossed around in the US Mail.

If you're that desperate for a certain brand/type/weight of pellets, by all means feel free to take the risk, but you'll very likely end up getting a very damaged delivery you'll spend a couple weeks getting resolved and NO, they won't pack your replacement shipment any better than they did your first one.

Sounds like your other hobby is stockpiling. When it becomes more peoples new hobby, then we have a problem. Ask the firearm guys. If we suffer the same fate so be it. I will ride my dirt bike and my guns can collect dust. It’s sad when the true problem is the guy sitting next to you at the range, not some bill that got passed. I don’t even go the the range or gun shops anymore for fear of punching someone in the head.

IMO, there is nothing wrong with buying as much of any item as one wants. Easy to criticize others for such but that is just one persons viewpoint. As to punching someone in the head, that someone probably feels the same way about you.

Hoarding... I guess it depends how you look at it.

  • 40 tins while shooting 3 tins a week. It's only 3 months of supply...
  • On the motorcycles, we usually go through one set of tires. I always have two sets on hand. Is that excessive?

On the bright side, once the panic buying is over, there often are good deals to be had... from people who bought too much.

Nope, no problem at all. Kinda makes me wonder why guys are complaining. There is not a shortage. It’s just people doing what they want.

I'd rather be the guy with more ammo than I need and able to shoot as much as I please, than the guy crying because he wants to shoot or hunt but has no ammo because he thought it would always be there for him. Just wait Biden wants to ban all internet sales, then what? Oh yeah, just ordered 12 tins of FX 18's their in stock today, at Pyramid.now I have 52 tins lol! I also have 3 air compressors and two tanks, now I will be blamed for using too much air. I have been buying pellets every month for the past 10 years, it's not hoarding its routine for me. And if you spend enough shipping is free.
