Pellet flight path

Some very good suggestions made here. I’m going to use several of them.

I have understood having the scope optically centered was to allow the best part of the glass to be used and to allow maximum adjustments in both directions for windage adjustments if required due to conditions. And of course that we know scopes track better if not taken to their extreme limits.

The cross over thing has me thinking. I don’t get that. If the windage is centered over the bore why does it matter if it’s optically accomplished or adjusted by the changing the position of the reticle within the scope?

If the scope is centered over the bore or pellet path there is no need for windage adjustment. In most cases they are not. By adjusting the reticle you are only zeroed at that range.

Now if you move the scope to the left or right to center with pellet flight or bore you should be good at any range. This adjustment needs to be done equally front and rear mounts.

If you mounted a scope on the side of the gun rather than the top centered you could still zero at a given range but the cross over would be extreme.

Ok. I’ve thought about the affect of cross over and optical centering. That could be a part of this . I’ll have to check that . I guess the first place to look is how much adjustment I have on the scope. If I have a bunch of windage on then I’m not optically centered. Thanks a bunch on that one. Took me a while to run that thru the food processor

Here's some more food for thought: a good video by a member here on how to optically center the scope. I start there and I use a set of Burris XTR Signature ring's. They are so versatile that you can nearly eliminate rifle cant and zero the gun at whatever range you want with the ring inserts, while leaving the scope optically zeroed.
