OK OldSpook, I took the 10 dimes challenge, kind of. :) I think you said shoot all ten dimes, five times each at 25 yards with a springer. I modified it a bit to stretch it out to 50 yards using a PCP. I like the challenge, it's pretty fun and it adds a new spin on shooting groups for me. Also, I think if more people posted results of a test like this, rather than the cherry picked 5 shot group, everyone would have much more conclusive data about what a guns real capabilities are.

We just had a snow storm here and it was really calm this morning after the storm so the conditions were really good. Basically no wind first thing this morning. 

Oldspook, I'm not sure how the scoring goes so please feel free to chime in and let me know. It looks like there are a few on each challenge that didn't hit the "dime" at all.

Very nice shooting @Cliff_Allen it looks like only two misses? Hard to tell but 1 and 8? And for me its hard to call those shots misses since any shot on that card would be a really great shot on a squirrel.

It should be interesting seeing some of those that always talk about how their rifle will do 1/2 inch at 50 yards and how its boring how easy it is. ;)

Thank you Goodtogo. I have to admit, I'm one of those guys that sometimes talks about how my rifle shoots 1/2 inch at 50 yards lol. However I like the extra challenge this test proposes and where shooting for groups only tests consistency, this seems to be a good blend between a guns consistency and accuracy. I think it gives a lot more data about a guns capabilities. I'd love to see more people post their results of a challenge like this!

Weather here is weird. I'm pretty much right on the coast so we tend to get more of the warmer air from the ocean in the winter and cooler air in the summer which doesn't suck. :) You'd never guess from those pics I took this morning, but my weather app says its 43 right now and the snow is melting pretty quick. The only clue that it was a "warm" storm is by how the branches are all bending over from the weight of the wetter, heavier snow. 

I don't really notice the POI change very much since I tend to shoot out of a window in the winter and I stay pretty warm for the most part. The only drawback to shooting out of a warm house into the cold is that you get a "mirage effect" from the heat leaving the window and it can kind of blur your line of sight to the target occasionally. This is the excuse I think I'm going to use today for why every shot didn't land firmly inside a circle. haha

I'll have a go at this when I get the chance to see how my .22 Royale 400 measures up - I'm not lucky enough to hail from the US so internet tells me diameter of a dime is 0.7" or 18mm.

Cliff, I always enjoy your post and learn something from most every one of them. I got out there today and shot a few of those dime size groups at 50 yds with my little .177 Thomas. Bipod and rear bag similar to your set up. I got confused and shot 10 shot groups instead of 5 shot groups though???? Never been good at reading instructions? LOL

I labeled each group and shot the target side ways as pictured. I shot the 1st and 2nd groups near the end of a fill and shot 3rd , 4th, and 5th groups from the beginning of a new fill.
On my second group I had that crazy flyer on the very first shot???? Can't explain it? No way it could have been me? The next 10 shots are taken at group #2 with no more drastic flyers?
#3 & #4 went OK without a flyer.
Then the 5th group was going great and was the tightest of the five until I had that really crazy flyer again on the 9th shot?????? I guess you could say #2 and #5 are eleven shot groups if you count those crazy flyers????? Can't explain it?

I was shooting the 13.4 gr JSB Monsters at about 818 FPS.

Geez Fuss! Those are incredible 10 shot groups at 50 yards! I hope the target you just posted doesn't cost me $3500 lol. Man, I was looking at the groups before reading and I was thinking, those are great 5 shot groups then I read your comments and when I saw they were 10 shot groups I had to go back and look again. lol. You and that Thomas sure are a helluva shootin combo! Weird those crazy fliers, they seem so out of character for how tight the rest of the groupings were. I wonder what would cause that? Regardless, 2 shots astray out of 50 ain't too shabby, I'd say you definitely outscored my FX Royale. Back to the drawing board for me! haha. I have a late morning tomorrow, you've inspired me to get out there and try again. Thanks for posting up your groups, you invigorated me to try harder :) I'll report back after trying again. Come to think of it, maybe I'll try with my BSA R-10. I haven't shot that in a while and that's a pretty straight shooter as well.

No worries Cliff. The .177 makes such a small hole that it makes the .25 cal groups not seem as tight as they really are. I think you have nothing to worry about with your 500. At least you didn't have any crazy flyers? Plus I had to wait for the wind to die down to do that. No way I could do that in a breeze with .177 pellets.
BTW, they were shot straight from the tin......but I sized each pellet with my TBT 4.53 mm pellet sizer as I shot them.

Mark, I wish I would have taken a photo of your 10 shot group with your Wildcat. It is a shooter for sure and that was the group of the day.
I will admit you and Paul both can out shoot me any day. No way I can sit on the ground and shoot like you guys, and certainly can't hold a candle to your off hand skills.
You're welcome to come try your luck any time. Always a pleasure to have you visit. Maybe you can take a pic of that killer 56 yd group you shot last Saturday and post it here? You have two witnesses also ;-) LOL

I hope you find the .177 rifle that suits your fancy for a go at FT this year. I'm thinking FX Streamline?

Something I noticed with the TbT sizer, is from time to time it will shear off a part of the head leaving a little shaving. They are small and I know I didn't notice them right off. Those might be your flyers. Something I've also taken to doing is to "polish" the bottom of the skirt, I've noticed on a lot of the JSB pellets there are little nicks across the bottom of the skirt. A little polishing on a plain old piece of paper seems to do the trick. That's cut down on my flyers but sure hasn't eliminated them either...

Thanks Percula, The second flyer I shot which was the 9th shot on group number 5....Just as you mentioned..... I had a little trouble with that pellet in the sizer. I should have kicked it out right then?
I agree, you have to get the pellet in the sizer just right so as not to shave a pellet or cause and imperfection in the skirt.
