I have done air guns for a LONG time, but not PCP....so forgive this question if it is really basic....

In reading the thread about the FX regulator issues and the OP going with a different regulator that was "better" then the one supplied with the rifle got me thinking....

I understand the mechanics of a regulator....but did not understand that on a high end rifle like an FX it would....I guess wear out/ go out of adjustment so quickly. This seems kinda unacceptable for a $1000+ air rifle. Makes me wonder just how well the low end Gauntlet will hold up....I just ordered one this week.....or say a Benji regulated Mrod....that is much more inexpensive then the FX offering.

I have shot my Mrod (not regulated) on a bottle and get very very stable FPS numbers....I am talking 3 FPS differences between shots at most....seeing Dup on the chrono is very common....magazine after magazine after magazine.....SO.

Am I missing something here, I know I would not be happy AT ALL spending $1300 on a rifle to have the Reg go south so quickly.

I don't own any FX rifles, but it seems to me that most of the hype about regulators (FX notwithstanding) going bad is more perception than reality. Part of the issue is regulator creep causing a increase in pressure over time—they ALL creep! That fact, doesn't make them defective per se. Typically, they're back to where they belong after one shot. If not, then there MIGHT be a problem.

Yes I understand they are really just an automatic valve....springs and such inside can wear....I get that.

But the thread I talked about really got me thinking.....FX is a premium brand....and yet if you want shots the same time after time after time....well a cheap mrod on a bottle will do that.....at least mine does.

I am also a one hole junky....I don't really hunt, but I do pesting....and that can be done sitting on my duff.....So I do want the same results time after time. And now I learn that all regulators are not the same.....it seems the regulator in the OP's thread I quoted on the FX, is not that high quality, as he went to another source and got one that is better in about every way.....I would think that an FX would have about the best there is, where a gauntlet would be pretty low end.....now I am wondering about the regulated thing all the way around.
