PCP newbie questions

Apologies to the group for my ignorance on pcp technology and practice.im going to ask some dumb questions, sorry.

just received a new FX Crown Continuum. In reading the rather sparse and somewhat contradictory Users Manual, I see the mandate to not fire the weapon when pressure is low. But also the directive to ensure disassembly is done with no pressure in the gun.

1. OK, let me ask: is there some way to bleed a pcp other than to disconnect the bottle and fire dry shots until all the plenum air is expended?
presumably at a low power setting? or is the “don’t fire with low power remaining” to mean don’t fire pellets, but one needs to dry fire to expend all the air?

2. The Continuum is shown in the case and in other pictures with moderator cans attached to both of the two barrels. I asked the dealer and was assured it came with two moderators. When it showed up with only one can, I called the dealer back to request the sales guy make good on the second can, and was told I could send the whole kit back if I didn’t like what was included in it, but they weren’t going to honor the second can, nor even a thread protector, which FX service center said should have also come in the kit/case. Nor would they bother to call FX — I was a bit taken aback, as I had another $5K on back order with the sales sales guy for an Impact II chrono and more gizmos. Didn’t phase him one bit to sort of laugh/sneer, guess back orders and demand for FX products are high enough to warrant dismissing one customer for another. I was too much trouble, and I guess they will sell all they get in ...

3. The non-marked moderator tube is an empty tube — no baffles, fins, packing — nothing but the tube and the threads and a pull off end.
I was under the impression that a moderator (this is the FX one they tell me, as it is completely devoid of markings), would contain something in the tube besides air. ?

4. The manual is outdated talking about shrouds built in to the barrel liners, and the ability to pull these out from the breech block to help with sound moderation. It appears FX have changed the barrels again and the mounting, now with two screws each side of the breech block, and thence no need to loosen screws from the top, means one can leave the scope and mount untouched and in place. Would one need to bleed or fire out al the air before changing barrels? These come with the two barrels, one 380 mm, and one 700 mm.

5. does anyone have experience with the empty-tube moderator? Is it effective? I marine it would not be that quiet, so I’m looking for suggestions for these barrels in this kit. Would a different one be needed for 380 vs the one to be used on the 700?

6. The tuning warnings about not to decrease pressure on the regulator knob, when the gun is filled is confusing to me. Are there any tutorials on this y’all can point me to? Again, do I have to empty all the air in the gun before/ to rotate these knobs ?

thanks for putting up with these basic questions — Paul

If the dealer who took your $2000.00 plus another $5000.00 you paid up front for a backorder REALLY DID LIKE YOU SAY THEY DID TO YOU then I would quickly return everything PHUCK THEM!!! and demand a refund and go order from Ken Hicks from SPAW who will NEVER screw anyone over and EXPOSE THESE JERKS PUBLICLY RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW. MAKE THEM FEEL THE BURN YOU FEEL IN THEIR WALLET.

1. You can unscrew the bottle and then turn the reg. a little until the air bleeds out. Plenty of people fire a shot after the bottle is removed to get rid of the last bit of air. No harm.

2. Unbelievable! Just crazy! Really sucks!

3. The hollow moderator does a good job of dampening sound, not the best but they work. Contrary to belief, not all moderators need a bunch of chambers, baffling material, etc. to make them quiet. Volume is most important for air gun moderators. These don't work like centerfire moderators. There are better moderators...0dB, DonnyFL, Neil Clague but not necessary for now unless you want to spend some more cash. 0dB, DonnyFL are my favorite mass produced moderator, Neil Clague makes the best custom moderators and his prices are unbelievably low for a custom moderator, made to order.

4. No

5. It is effective, definitely give it a try. Don't give up on getting your second moderator though, that's just crappy!

6. It's not supposed to matter (decreasing) with the AMP regulator but I still decrease 1/4 turn and then fire a shot and repeat. Or, you can take off the bottle and get rid off all the air in the gun. Screw the bottle back on, once charged with air, then increase the regulator pressure slowly until it's where you want it to be.

It's a little intimidating at first but not a big deal after you get the hang of it. Take your time, learn your gun and have fun!

Have a great day. Stoti

OH, I see where you're going YO. I hope you know me well enough by now to know that I'd never do that intentionally! If they really are this bad, they probably won't pay for shipping, he'll get screwed again. When I ship a gun it usually costs me somewhere between $120-$160. If he has to pay for shipping, he'd be better off buying a new moderator with that money and out these guys! On the other hand, they should be able to defend themselves. I mean no disrespect but there are two sides to every story and I don't know you(Paul) at all. Maybe it was a misunderstanding or something was misinterpreted? I don't know, I'm just saying. Maybe you should call and talk to the owner of the company where you bought it.

I sure would love to hear where you got it but that's totally your call.

As a matter of fact, you need to call FX straightaway and let them know what's going on, maybe they can call the shop and get it worked out. 866-639-0772 or 910-408-3455

With all of that being said, the info I gave you is good advice Paul. Whether you decide to return the gun, call FX and try to have them work it out or keep the gun and get a different moderator, I'm sorry you got worked over like that. It really is unacceptable!

actually first order was $27xx as I ordered a slug liner, Meopta scope, pellets and more.
They didn’t charge the second as the items I wanted were/are on back order — caliber change kits, chrono etc.
but that was sitting at approx. $55xx as I was planning a nite scoping ratting setup with the Impact.
so goodbye to the Egyptian structure folks, incorrectly spelled, and maybe wait for the Daystate Delta Wolf?

Thanks STOTI you are a good man!

I WOULD RETURN EVERYTHING AND EAT THE SHIPPING SCREW IT AND POST THAT DEALERS NAME HERE! $27XX??? SERIOUSLY? AND YOU STILL LET THEM PROFIT OFF YOU? LIKE A THANK YOU PHUCK YOU VERY MUCH?

Geez...they should've thrown in the second moderator no questions asked! Anyway, lots of info and people on here to answer your questions. Also, check out these vids if you haven't already. https://youtu.be/ub72OtAA-RI https://youtu.be/Dzs_muWHE5s

Oh Sonny, I thought i knew what you meant with the ordering pellets comment so I went to their web site to see if they sell Meopta scopes...Yes, yes they do. If this is the company where he did his business, that's really too bad! It sounds like he was treated rudely, lied to and then scoffed at on the phone. I would have lost my marbles!

Hopefully if the company you were suggesting is where he did indeed have this problem and because they are a sponsor here on AGN, he will be contacted and they will fix the problem expeditiously. It does make a little more sense now, knowing that it's a huge, big box type store and not a smaller shop. I was having a hard time believing one of the companies I deal with frequently would do this but It's too bad it happened at all.

Paul, call the company where you bought the gun, ask to talk to the owner or customer service manager. Explain the situation and what you intend to do about it if they don't make it right. If that doesn't work, call FX and ask for Jessica or even Jon. Explain the whole situation and I bet he'll take care of you. I really hope it all gets sorted out for you Paul, good luck! Please be sure to keep us informed of any developments and whether or not the issue gets resolved in a satisfactory way.
