Apologies to the group for my ignorance on pcp technology and practice.im going to ask some dumb questions, sorry.
just received a new FX Crown Continuum. In reading the rather sparse and somewhat contradictory Users Manual, I see the mandate to not fire the weapon when pressure is low. But also the directive to ensure disassembly is done with no pressure in the gun.
1. OK, let me ask: is there some way to bleed a pcp other than to disconnect the bottle and fire dry shots until all the plenum air is expended?
presumably at a low power setting? or is the “don’t fire with low power remaining” to mean don’t fire pellets, but one needs to dry fire to expend all the air?
2. The Continuum is shown in the case and in other pictures with moderator cans attached to both of the two barrels. I asked the dealer and was assured it came with two moderators. When it showed up with only one can, I called the dealer back to request the sales guy make good on the second can, and was told I could send the whole kit back if I didn’t like what was included in it, but they weren’t going to honor the second can, nor even a thread protector, which FX service center said should have also come in the kit/case. Nor would they bother to call FX — I was a bit taken aback, as I had another $5K on back order with the sales sales guy for an Impact II chrono and more gizmos. Didn’t phase him one bit to sort of laugh/sneer, guess back orders and demand for FX products are high enough to warrant dismissing one customer for another. I was too much trouble, and I guess they will sell all they get in ...
3. The non-marked moderator tube is an empty tube — no baffles, fins, packing — nothing but the tube and the threads and a pull off end.
I was under the impression that a moderator (this is the FX one they tell me, as it is completely devoid of markings), would contain something in the tube besides air. ?
4. The manual is outdated talking about shrouds built in to the barrel liners, and the ability to pull these out from the breech block to help with sound moderation. It appears FX have changed the barrels again and the mounting, now with two screws each side of the breech block, and thence no need to loosen screws from the top, means one can leave the scope and mount untouched and in place. Would one need to bleed or fire out al the air before changing barrels? These come with the two barrels, one 380 mm, and one 700 mm.
5. does anyone have experience with the empty-tube moderator? Is it effective? I marine it would not be that quiet, so I’m looking for suggestions for these barrels in this kit. Would a different one be needed for 380 vs the one to be used on the 700?
6. The tuning warnings about not to decrease pressure on the regulator knob, when the gun is filled is confusing to me. Are there any tutorials on this y’all can point me to? Again, do I have to empty all the air in the gun before/ to rotate these knobs ?
thanks for putting up with these basic questions — Paul
