P15 PELLET CHOICE

I've been shooting my new 15 for a couple of weeks. Been using mark 2 JSB and 25g heavy JSB. Honestly, I'm not expecting miracles from this gun but it shoots amazingly well with a flyer here and there. However, the groups @25&60 are nearly the same and it honestly shoots 65 and 70 yds. with 2" or slightly more @ times. Still the occasional flyer. Nothing I can't live with if I must!

I've just ordered an assortment of HN pellets from 20g to 30. What are everyone else shooting in the P15? The mark 2's shoot just as well as the 25g. just slower. plenty fast to varmint hunt. though.

just looking for input from fellow shooters that have discovered that this is the handiest and most fun gun.. Just trying to get a little tighter group with out flyers.

Thanks and keep shooting.

Fliers can drive you nuts. You ( or at least I would think ) if its the ammo you could identify the problem. And often you can not. Sometimes let’s face it it’s the shooter or the conditions .

I think to REALLY test ammo (pellets) you have to shoot in doors at some distance and you really have to test the ammo having more then one shooter behind the gun. AND one or two good groups doesn’t mean much.

Frankly ive pretty much stopped shooting groups it just gets frustrating. I tend to shoot small targets at fairly long ranges and if I can hit them then that’s good enough for mr

I got tired of shooting good groups one day to only go back and shoot average ones the next time out

When I got my P15 [Like I do with all of my air rifles]
I start out by testing things out of the box with a dirty factory grimy barrel..

Crosman Premier 14.3 gr Hollow Points 1st.
Amazingly, they shot awesome! So I just kept shooting them..

The other day, I did a vid w/ chrony test for it,
but that time, I used some H&N Baracuda 21 gr, and again,
Amazing.

I have a handful of other H&N types/weights to send down range,
as well as a tin or 2 of JSBs.

Most likely, the brand new JSBs will be all warped and damaged though
as I can't seem to get a tin of decent ones - over the past year..

Now, for the most part, I'm seeing pellet on pellet accuracy - or close..
I will still get flyers, but, in MY case, I have a 'sketchy' magazine,
and when used, it usually causes that, and, the barrel is still dirty.

I'll be cleaning and leading it in properly and soon,
so I'll re-do all of my tests, and keep everyone posted.

Also - I'm only shooting indoors at 10m,
so I can't vouch for any long range shots until' it warms up again.

🙂

Keyman, I shoot the same pellets and don't get any flyers. My gun @53 yards consistantly shoots group that you can hide under a quarter. My barrel is is an anomoly, I guess, perect rifling, no tight or loose spots. When I first bought it, before doing any power adjustments, it actually shot 43gr Eugins into a ragged hole, but not now for some reason I don't know. The 25 JSB might shoot better more often than the MkII at 53 yards but at distance I like the MKII better and I am getting 46FPE out of them for 3 magazines. I have modded the hammer with a brass insert to stop ping, bed the stock and re-shaped the grip opening for my hand and used Rustoleum truck bed liner (tan), put a magpul rail perpendicular to the barrel on the fore-end and use a Sumo .30 on the end of the shroud and I love it. I had a .25 Tanto but it was too tight and effected accuracy. My gun likes H&N Barracuda Match too, better than the Hunters, which kind of ticks me off. Fun gun, never getting rid of it!

Here's a mini-update as of this morning..
I was doing a bit of shooting before work, and burned through the rest of the H&N Baracuda tin..
I wanted to stay with 21.17 grain, so, I grabbed the next step up and went with H&N Baracuda *Match* this time..

What?! Wow!! I was getting fantastic results already, but, the 'Match' version of pellets seriously grouped even better!

Granted I'm using a .22 cal, and my only .25 cal rifle is just shooting JSB .25's

If you try the "Match" specific ones, [I see PumaCarl mentioned this too] You'll probably see another bit of improvement.

🙂👍
