Owners of the HW90 (a.k.a. Beeman RX2)…what are your thoughts?

Absolutely LOVE the RX platform. Infinitely adjustable power, even in the field with a slim-jim style pump.Seals and soft parts are readily available. Very easy to work on, since no spring compressor is needed. The trigger is not as good as a Rekord or CD but still plenty good and can be made very good by David Slade or other tuners who are well versed with them. They are a large gun and the cocking effort is somewhat more than a similarly powered coiled spring but not by much. The cocking effort is often overstated because people are trying to get too much power from them. Absolutely ZERO twang or buzz since there is no steel coiled spring to begin with. Some of the older Beeman models are already comanding a premium.

I say go for it!

I had a 2000' 20 caliber RX1 that I bought used and neglected. When I got it it was overcharged and shooting 24 fpe Avg and had 50+fps extreme spreads. It quickly burned through the piston seal. It took a while to get to shoot right. Once I did it was real nice around 19-21 fpe. When I was done with it, it had single digit extreme spreads and would easily shoot quarter sized groups at 50 yds.

I really liked the gun, unfortunately it died shortly after I got it working good. The fixed detent wore away quickly and the gun wouldn't lock up properly. The fix was to replace the compression tube which was more than I wanted to spend on it. I parted it out to recoup some of my investment.

Unlike some I thought the trigger was excellent. Most of the adjustment information on the net is completely wrong. Cocking effort is stout but not impossible. My 19 fpe R1 Karbine is just as hard to cock. The stroke build up is different than a spring gun.

I was considering picking up an Hw90 in 22 when I picked up an R1. The Rx1 was a great gun but I don't need a magnum springer, much less two. I can whole heartedly recommend a Hw90 in any caliber but 177. I think 22 is the best fit for this gun. That's just me. I also feel that the shot cycle gets sloppy under 17/18 fpe. Again that's just my opinion.

Be well,

Ron

I owned one for a couple months, a nutmeg laminate RX2 in .20. VERY cool gun.

Going up or down in fpe with the adaptor and a hand pump was a pretty cool feature. Much easier than tearing down a "regular" springer and reconfiguring preload and/or different springs to adjust power levels.

My assessment of the trigger agrees with Lewis's, not quite as good as a Rekord, but still pretty good.

I bought it during the hunt for an extremely accurate piston gun for field target. It was accurate, but still a "springer" subject to all that variations in hold pressures on the gun causing wandering poi problem. (Fully aware that it's a shooter problem, not a gun problem, but also fully cognizant of my lack of ability to hold a springer exactly the same way every shot).

I didn't mind the cocking effort, but I'm a lot younger than the average age of most airgunners.

I ended up selling it for a couple reasons. It was a bit louder than I was comfortable shooting at the house I lived in at the time, and with the glued on? muzzle break, hard to hush . It also felt like such a BIG, heavy gun to me (I'm 5'11and weigh bout 185). And finally, I wanted access to the money I had wrapped up in the RX2 to go towards the next airgun I was interested in trying out.
