Over thinking?

Trying to mount my new Hawke 3×9 on the TX. When I get everything comfortable it's looking like the rear mount is too far back in the rails. Being brand new to spring guns I'm looking for a second opinion on my mount position. These are the BKL mounts that don't come with a stop pin.

Not real sure how to post a photo but I'll try this

Looks good. BKL’s really grip.

Put a small piece of masking tape on the rail just touching the front edge of the front mount. If you notice a gap after several dozen shots then your mounts aren’t tight enough.

To ensure your scope is mounted correctly linearly;

1. Shoulder the gun comfortably with your eyes closed.

2. Open your “aiming” eye.

3. The sight picture should clear. No black halo in the eye piece.

4. If your sight picture isn’t exact, adjust the scope accordingly.

You shouldn’t have to move your head around to obtain a ideal sight picture.

good luck!

I have spent a lot of time with TX200's and scopes. This scope looks to be too far back to me to easily mount and acquire the full field of view. BKL mounts are indeed good but I have not been able to get the best and consistent groups of my TX200s until going to the very good $100 4 screw one piece mounts with the recoil pin installed. Nearly always, the scope will move at some point. Usually, the correct position for me is to center up the recoil lug in the second hole from the back, or up 3/4" to 1" from the back of the receiver.

Good luck.

Thank you all for your replies. I am completely new to both the TX and the Hawke scope, as well as just starting off in shooting again after a long lay off. I am especially new to the characteristics of spring powered rifles... I'm in need of some good tutorials and have been scouring YouTube videos. One thing I am doing is checking my eye relief on max power which is 9×. Is that the correct way to measure this?

Thanks again guys,

Sb
