Over the moon with this one! Hint: 🏃 🐗

I was recently offered this beautiful, extremely well preserved piece for a price that I couldn't refuse. Far less than what I've ever seen them go for throughout the years! And to top it off the previous owner had it professionally overhauled by someone very experienced with these rifles so "it's ready for a ton of shooting". That sounds mighty fine to me. I'm no collector; this will get shot.

The rifle is 100% as described and it was a drama-free, pleasant transaction. Love it when that happens.

Here are some pics of my new to me Feinwerkbau Model 300S Running Boar 🏃 🐗 :

It's been several years since I've owned a FWB recoilless rifle, and two things immediately came to mind after shooting a few pellets:

1) How RIDICULOUSLY light the cocking effort was.

2) An absence of vibrations/"humm" from the powerplant. My old FWB 300 had both, as so my FWB springer pistols (all professionally overhauled). Apparently this is a tight one.

I have some old Tasco/Bushnell 4-12X40 (gloss, made in Japan) and Beeman 66R 2-7X32 scopes, but would like to hear from others re: what scopes you're using. Pics would be welcome!

Thanks,

J

Hey Johnny, nice score. What do you intend to use it for? I used a Universal for field target and put my Leupold 35X on it. It shot a certain batch of the 7.87 JSBs at 700 fps. Was underpowered for the long ones and wind was challenging, but for anything inside about 35 to 40 yards, it was lights out. Won a few local comps, but knew I would not win bigger matches. It was so sweet to shoot that I didn't care.

Would probably be great for Bench rest as well.

I won't be shooting these:

But I will be shooting these:

The elusive old school FWB match air rifle quarry, Dissosteira carolina🤓. Come summer time, it's going to be head shot city on the hoppers. LOL

And of course I'll shoot paper targets, rainy day garage positional shooting practice, etc. I've no intention of "hot rodding" it or modifying it in any way.

Stunning rifle! Congrats on that (bf1956, note that 300S RB's came with several different styles of stocks over the years, this thumbhole type is a late one).

Here's a handy listing of serial numbers. No. 256908 dates from 1978.

Mike, thank you! As always your'e a wealth of knowledge. I found this post of yours (bottom of the thread) very informative re: the Running Boar's trigger:

She's 43 years old, but still has a timeless beauty.

WOW! That is a beautiful rifle. What a great score. You're going to have many enjoyable shooting sessions with that one.

I love shooting my 300S. Its one of my favorite rifles and one that I'll never sell. It's a shame they don't produce these fine guns anymore.

Could you share who did the professional overhaul? There will probably come a time when I'd like to get mine done.
