Out of the Shadows

Well today I got my Uragan Compact in 177 cal aka Shadow shooting 10.34 gr JSBs heavy at my new permission.

Shadow has been sitting in a gun safe since June and so today it deserved to have its legs stretched. The weather was great and lots lots of sparrows. However the pigeons were scarce and the starlings only gave me a chance or two. I connected but didn’t drop on.

My shooting was off and I connected but not the way I should be. I did check the zero and has a little adjustment.

I shot about 8 sparrows and could find 6 of them. However I connected with the same number and didn’t drop them.

As I was done loading up the pigeons showed up to tease me and so I unpacked looked a magazine, then rushed the shot. :(.

Anyways it was a good couple of hours and of course I brought donuts.

Also before I headed home I was wondering if sitting so long in the safe might have hurt the regulator. Nope it is tight still.

@L.Leon I am sighted in for 30 yards, and I just need some more plinking time, plus maybe shooting sticks. Also, a factor I was pretty hungover yesterday from drinking by the pool with the neighbors in the complex I will in. LOL The Ranger got more plinking time when the Uragan so i now need to give the Uragan some more practice time.

@ctshooter it is a laser as long as I do my job.

Say Pete I've a couple of technical questions for you and/or Luis.
As I am planning on purchasing a 22 Ranger for day setup and a 22 Uragan compact for NV setup.
And want to outfit them correctly from the start without my normal trial & error waltz.
I am thinking of moderating with long HUMA mod 30-40 units and then reducing as needed for more silent operations.

You mentioned that Spector still had a bark with a DonnyFL Tatsu and that it wasn't as quiet as Shadow.
QUESTION: What moderator do you have on SHADOW and is it quieter than a factory setup, would a MOD 40 be better?

I've also noticed Luis seems to run DonnyFL moderation to tame the bark on his Brocock XR.
QUESTION: Would a MOD 30 be an improvement?

Thanks for your time and hands on technical input.

Well, @SHOMER it is hard to compare the Ranger vs the Uragan from the sound generation standpoint. The moderator on the Uragan is a stock AGT and on my Ranger I have a DFL Tatsu. The Uragan has a full shroud in addition to the moderator, the ranger does not and a barrel that is around 100 mm longer than the Ranger. All these make the Uragan quieter, even at the higher power level by design. Also, most likely the 22 will be quieter than the 177. @L.Leon do you think what I said are accurate?

Wow BIG thanks for your quick replies, from the two I trust with that all important hands on experience.
My challenging quest is keep them both as SHORT for mobility & SILENT for any second engagements.

Luis having had a Tanto before, that's what I thought you had one on your Brocock XR.
Thanks for reaffirming the all important point, that it's able to tame the bark without adding another foot.

Pete I know just by it's design the Uragans are a very quiet operating unit, which will workout excellent as a NV stalker . I wondered if there was more bark than a standard XR and if so dropping the Ranger bark down to the level of a SHADOW.

Thanks for your always thoughtful information as I am sure it will help others on their own quest to nirvana.
