Opinions Beeman HW97k vs AA TX200

I have both. My TX200 is .22. I have 3 HW97K'S in .177. Have only shot my first one so far. But that told me to buy 2 more. Hard to beat a Weihrauch gun period. But I will admit TX200 is a nicer looking gun.

I've owned a HW97K and it's a fine rifle indeed. Someday both of them will need spring replacement or some kind of servicing. Probably sooner than later. In that case, if I were to buy another, I'd give the nod to the TX200. It's easy to pull it down to replace a spring, whereas the 97K needs a spring compressor and it's kind of a PITA. But, both are fine rifles.

Not sure what you consider "lower power" or if 760 fps in .177 is in your ballpark, but I put a sub 12 ft. lb. kit from ARH in my 97 and it went from a twangy, vibrating shot cycle to one with a quick, solid pop and no vibration and is very pleasant to shoot . Whether this has to do with better fitting components or a less powerful spring I do not know. The point of this comment is if you order from Krale, you can get a 16J HW97 in .177 and possibly end up with a similarly civilized shot cycle as I am enjoying with my aftermarket spring kit and you won't have to spend the money on the aftermarket kit. You'll save a ton of money over buying a TX200. BTW, the blue on my 97 is just fine.

If you're looking for a low power under-lever springer, AOA has their Diana 430L combo on sale. It's supposed to be harder to cock, and it's probably not as nice as an HW97K, but it's still supposed to be a pretty nice gun.

Here's a nice write up about it. There are three parts to the article. This is a link to the first part.

If I was looking for a low power under-lever springer, I'd consider this. It's German made, and costs a lot less than an HW97K or the TX200.

Here's AoA's listing for it, if you're interested:

The HW97K is available in both 11.8 fp and 14.7 fp models from Krale, if you're not interested in the Diana.

Positive for the HW97; several different stock options; synthetic thumbhole, Monte Carlo wood, laminate blue wood, thumbhole wood, all ambidextrous. different metal options; blue or stainless look not (true stainless BTW) much larger loading port then the TX, no annoying clicking anti beartrap noise.

Positive for TX; piston is glided, walnut stock available, easier to tune than the 97, carbine or standard length available.

HW97's

I’ve owned a .20 97K and currently own a full length 77 in .177 caliber. I also own a highly tuned TX200 in .177. I think we are splitting hairs here. I really love them all. And all are just as accurate as each other. The 77/97 are nice because you don’t have to deal with that aggravating lever to disengage the anti bear trap after cocking, and the TX is easier to work on. I think whichever one you buy, you’ll enjoy it so much you’ll probably buy the other...

The 97K don't need a spring compressor either.

One thing they fail to mention in that video is that it's a European sub 12 fpe gun and not FAC gun we see here in states! It still can be done without the spring compressor but not as easily as that video shows and will hurt you if your not careful. The spring on a 14 to 15fpe gun has about 2 inches of preload on the spring...

Just a heads up !

And my vote is for the 97k!

I've owned both and sold the TX. It's a great rifle but just didn't fit me right.
