I have a HW95 and was wondering what open sights are available for HWs and what others are using.

I have 2 Williams sights equipped with adjustable aperature. For front sight I have tried at least 20 different inserts. I didn't expectmy favorite insert would be a "plain ol'" conventional blade. I especially like the one that is skinney and taoered to a point. I set the point at 6 O'clock on the bull and hit center. I mostly shoot a 10 Meter pistol bull aat 50 feet offhand in the basement. Instead of using a spoting scope, I have a video camera on the paper bull and monitor at off-hand location.

I also have a Feinverkbaugh 10 meter rifle. In addition to adjustable aperature it offers colored filters if needed. IMO peeps are the best iron sights matched with hooded front sight that can accept inserts.

i would think a older Anschutz would work they will mount on many rifles

a Diana model 100 should work

want is nice about the HW diopter sights is it has the wheel in the front that screws in and lowers lowers a pin in one of the holes on the top of the tube

so you can take it off and return without resighting the rifle

there are many diopter sights on Ebay and all are in the 100 to who knows in cost

there is another place to look and it is on Egun in Germany, is it easy to use No but the prices can make it a place to shop if you can work it out with the seller

i did very well on sights and grips and a stock

even this could be an option

I love using match sights on sporter rifles, and Anschutz sights are great. They fit perfectly on the scope rails of all HW rifles made since the late 1970’s. I actually prefer them to HW’s own sights, which are heavier and drop down below the top of the receiver, limiting where you can place your thumb and making it rather hard to reach the safetly.

You can find Anschutz sights on all kinds of used-gun sites, ebay, gun shows, etc. Expect to pay around $100 - really not THAT bad when you consider a new WIlliams is around $70. The extra precision and accessories available for the match diopters are worth it (I HIGHLY recommend starting with an adjustable-aperture iris, an indispensable gadget for adapting to various light conditions).

Bad photo, but shows match sights on three Weihrauchs. Left to riight, an alloy Anschutz on an old HW 50, a steel-body Anschutz “Universal” sight on another 50, and an old HW sight on an HW 55 target rifle.

I've been using a Williams Foolproof with dovetail mount for quite a while. It has .093 aperture but I remove it and simply center the front post through the aperture opening. Similar to selection on an M-16 with carry handle. A dab of florescent green in the front sight and good to go. You may have to remove the back sight but that is an easy fix. But like the guys said. The Weihrauch sights are awfully good, and hard to beat.
