When I bought my first 300S I had one thing in mind, to shoot Old Spooks Ten Dimes Challenge clean. I had tried and got close several times with my 34 in .177 and 48 in .22 (both scoped) but never cleaned it. With a scope on the 300 it was pretty easy.
Having accomplished my goal I set out to learn to shoot the diopter sights that came on the 300. At 57 and wearing glasses for distance and reading I didn't honestly think I could shoot them. My buddy is 58 and shoots them assured me the peep would clear the target up., he was right. It's amazing what these 300's will do at 25 yards with the factory sights. For a challenging open sight target I modified Old Spooks target by blacking the dime size area, I accomplished my goal, it's a challenge!
Last month I bought another 300S, she's a little rough so I call her Ugly Betty. What she lacks in beauty she more than makes in accuracy. Now I bought Betty to shoot with open sights and after testing a bunch of pellets I settled on AA 7.87's and JSB 7.33's with the 7.33 shooting slightly better at 25 yards. I also shot AA 7.33 side by side with the JSB's alternating groups from one pellet to the other and the JSB shot much better.
Having the pellets sorted out I got up early this AM and did some shooting. The target below is not shot clean, there is one clearly out and two that just trimmed the line. So I'm throwing out a fun challenge, down load the target (I'll post it) and shoot it with any type of open sights with any springer at 25 yards and post your photos.
