Open letter to Crosman/Benjamin

I purchased my Kratos .22cal based upon your good reputation for customer service and parts availability, well those two things took a serious punch to the face lately. My power valve o-rings are leaking, from reading other posts I'm beginning to believe that it may be a common problem. That in itself isn't a big issue, the fact that you won't (yes-I said won't) sell them to me or tell me what size they are is a big issue. However your customer service rep said if I sent the rifle back to you that you would fix it under warranty. My issue with that is the down time involved with that. It would take less time to install the o-rings myself than it would take just driving to the nearest FedEx/UPS store. I also don't take kindly to your rep threatening to void my warranty over such a simple repair. If you did something to anger the factory to the point where they won't tell you the o-ring size or supply you with them, that's between you guys. We as customers who laid out serious hard earned cash for these rifles don't deserve this kind of treatment.

What is a power valve oring? Not sure why a rep would threaten to void your warranty. From previous experience as long as the rifle is in stock configuration upon sending in for warranty work you should be fine. I have most oring sizes for the rifle. Hopefully I can help.

Please do! I've been beating my head against a wall trying to remedy this thing. It's the power adjustment knob on the right side of the action/receiver, near where the magazine slides in.

Strange luck, are you shooting from the left shoulder?

Have you done the tissue paper test to narrow down the location of the leak? How do you know for sure where the leak is coming from?

My presumption is that you are much more likely to have a breach seal o ring go bad, than the power adjuster o ring...but I am wrong a lot. Is the leak continuous or is just on the shot cycle?

Do you have a set of calipers? Often times it is easier to get your own measurements than it is to explain to a phone representative over the phone which part (especially on a brand new gun) on which gun, you are looking for.

Keep in mind that those people are there to help you. Being abusive with them greatly diminishes your chances of a happy outcome. We all get enough abuse in everyday life to understand that a little kindness goes a long way. Crosman has always done me right when they can. Learning how to ask is as important as learning what to ask.

Amazon has what you need.

Thinking about what Jim and Vetmx said, it's possible the reason you had the issue is your wording. Calling it a power valve would lead most anyone to believe your talking about the absolute internals of the gun. Their customer service people are well trained and have always been a tremendous help but they're also not gun techs. Just like some companies call the valve stem and poppet a "firing valve". Not using the correct terms can easily cause confusion and unfortunately frustration even if it's not intentional.

Answers to your questions

thammer I removed the adjuster and the left side o-ring was chunked out. When I was on the phone with them I do believe I referred to it as "the power adjustment knob"

JimNM I was never abusive to them ( Crosman) either on the phone or here, stated facts only here. When I was on the phone with them I know they could tell I was disappointed with the situation, but I was never rude or disrespectful towards them.

Thank you for being civil to the people who help us out. The link I gave you on amazon will get the o ring for you. BTW, it is not uncommon for a seller to not stock every last part, particularly for widely available things like orings.

I have a lifetime supply of mostly the wrong sized orings. I know it can be a PITA to get the right one. When I do get it right, I be sure to share with the crowd to build the customer in knowledge base.

FWIW, that Thammer guy (Troy Hammer) is a superb gun whisperer. He tunes and custom builds some real treasures. He is %110 good source for information.

Like you, I have a pile of wrong size o-rings. Big thank you for the link!

So far I'm very happy with the rifle and will continue to let people know it's a great value for the money, even with a messed up o-ring it still shot well, just not at it's full potential. I already have run well over 1000 rounds through it, pellets and slugs. I'll let you guys in on a secret, it shoots better than my FX Boss .30cal. You will be seeing me post about my Kratos from time to time, this post wasn't about giving up - it's about getting it fixed so I can move forward. So a huge Thank You to everyone who helped out.
