Only one barrel/liner for FX Impact, which one would you choose?

Hi,

I'm planning to buying the FX Impact MK2 and wonder which barrel/liner you would choose if you're only able to have one. The reason why I'm restricted to only one liner is because the law in Sweden makes it's very complicated to have more liners.

From the start I will shoot pellets but in the future I would like to be able also shoot slugs. This will probably happen as soon as JSB and H&N put them on the market.

I would really appreciate some feedback!

.25 or .22 caliber? I had the 600mm .25 slug liner and it shot slugs well and the JSB 33.95 even better. Like, hole on hole at 40yds, no joke, it stacked ‘em. The slug liner was way more accurate with the 33.95’s than the pellet liner that came with the gun. A lot of variables though.

Haha, that's crazy when you optimize for slugs and pellets rule, sounds great to me though.

Would you prefer 600 mm or 700 mm with .25 slug liner?

I did a post with lots of testing of the 600mm slug liner and about 30 different slugs. I haven’t tested the 700mm because I haven’t gotten it yet, I’m still waiting. In general though, the 700mm is more air efficient and more powerful. Even though I haven’t tested the 700mm, that’s probably what I’d go with. I have the MK2 700mm (580cc bottle) and I am getting more than 85+ shots with my reg at 150bar, tuned to shoot the 33.95 JSB’s at 845fps. I’m sure I can tune the slug liner to shoot at least one of the slugs and the 33.95 JSB’s. Good luck with your decision. Stoti

I would go .22 slug liner 600mm, they shoot the heavy .22 pellets just as good as the .22 B pellet liner and should also shoot the "correct" slug well.

Yeah, what he said. Though I have not quite got mine (.25) dialed in, I have determined that the JSB pellets still one-hole(ish) at 30yds. In fact, I may just go back to pellets full time for awhile.

I have my .22 Impact X setup for birding and ratting. I have a second Impact X in .25 setup for the larger fur bearing critters. Both have the 600mm barrel with pellet liner.

The .25 seems to sit in it's case most of the time. The .22 is always out being used and abused. I believe the .22 is more versatile than the .25 due to availability of more pellet choices. Got to love those "Hades" and "Monster Redesigns".

I haven't jumped on the slug bandwagon yet. But if I could have only one, I'll keep the .22 with a 600mm barrel. I like woods walking and the 600mm barrel seems more suitable for my needs than a 700mm barrel. If I was a bench rest shooter, the 700mm barrel would definitely be the way to go.

With so many shooters having different needs, you will get many different answers. Determine what you will be doing with the rifle and choose accordingly.

I have all cals and test a lot, if I have to choose 1 will be 0.22 slug liner 700mm. Is a bit more forgiving ( a bit more accurate) than 600 since the air take longer than the ammo to exit the barrel, ergo less turbulence. As mentioned they shoot pellets quite good too the monsters amazing out if 980-1000fps.

But will all depend on your main use for it.

New guy here...but not to shooting...

I've got a 600mm .22 Slug Liner in my FX Crown VP and it likes the 15.89g JSB pellets. (.6 @ 50 yards with a pulled shot; .3 without for 5/4 shots.)

The 18.13g group looked a little too sloppy to measure, but it would do for 50 yards hunting.

(All of this with factory settings.)

I'm pleased that the slug liner shoots the pellets so well because I don't want to have to deal with changing liners on a regular basis.

(Looking for more data from other users before I start trying slugs out of it. FX support suggested at least 850fps for the 23g Nielsen.)

Good to hear from a real sniper. Do you notice a diffrence in precision between pellets liner and slug liner when shooting pellets?

Also, which pellets do you prefer when using your slug liner?

I only ever tried the JSB 18.1gr pellets.......at 975fps they were 0.5" accurate at 50yds. That was the furthest I tested them in the field, which was good enough for me on pest birds.

As many state above, the .25 is brilliant, but the .22 is just more versatile, more fun to shoot all the time IMO, better selection of pellets which are more widely availible and slightly more cost effective.

The 700mm barrel is a bonus over the 600 if you want to squeeze every ounce of energy out of the gun, however the gun becomes overly long for most applications which removes a lot of its real advantages in the first place, my 700 is the same length as my Redwolf standard.

700's wont fit in the FX case with the mod on, okay not a game changer but nice to get the complete gun out of the box without having to faff around.
