One shot, one kill

This is kind of a takeaway from couple threads, but not. You have your trusty pest gun on permanent standby for key pests, year round. What is it? When you have to have full confidence reaching for it off the rack/ case and drop an ethical kill shot every time, assuming you do your part. Mine is a 25 cal taipan, now taipan 2. Never a concern, what’s yours?

I got 3 that I’d put in that category. Uragan 3 (.22 standard), Wildcat MK III (.22 compact) and Evol (.22 15inch barrel - took a while to get it there). Bunch of others with same or even better accuracy but they are longer/heavier so wouldn’t just grab and shoulder them (or lean with them on whatever)…

.25 Mrod. 25g pellets (it likes JTS Dead Center). 81 squirrels since May. All one-shot at less than 20yds. If I didn't enjoy poking holes in paper so much, I wouldn't be thru my first tin.

And...if it wasn't so bleedin' hot out, I would already have finished repairs to the corners of the house they chewed to shreds.

BSA R10 SE .22 or my FX Continuum w/380mm barrel in .22. Ive killed probably over 75 Starlings/Sparrows out my front door or bathroom window with both and they are always dead on. I use m KNY spinners to verify occasionally at 62 yds. Plus killed a bunch of squirrels hunting with both last year, always head shots except for a couple. Have several others that are just as consistent including a Taipan Vet 2 Standard .22 but use these the most.

These 2 both setup by AZ. Rapid mkll .20. Jsb heavy 15.9 @ 900 and Raw hm1000x .30 jsb 44's @ 880.

All my PCPs work well for this but I do not normally use my Avenger for pesting only because it is so long. But it has a couple squirrels to it's credit. Velocity changes some with temperature, however, so I usually check the POI within a month or so of using them for pesting/hunting. For short range backyard duty I like to use my P35-177 or Prod because they are lower powered and do not carry as far. But still make clean kills. But a bigger pest (like a raccoon) gets the P35-25. If I need to shoot something today I would probably use the 22 caliber Bullshark. 18 grain JSBs at over 900 fps. Overkill for squirrels but I am confident it will work, even if an armadillo wanders into the yard. I test the first shot from my guns after they have sat 12 hours or more and change the pellet or tune until the first shot is dependable.

The HW100 is a really solid rifle. Mine is my yard rifle. With close neighbors, I tuned it down to around 11 fpe. At that level, it's almost silent, and the shot count is tremendous.
My HW100 Sporter in .177 shooting Exact Monster Diablo 13.43gr has the pellet weight of a .22 and flat trajectory of a .177; only holds 200 Bar, yet gives me available 100 shots with superb 30-60 yard accuracy on flocks of crows......which is my only target that I consider a true pest....our family of Barred Owls and a fox family takes care of the few mice/rats and keeps the squirrel/rabbit population under reasonable control. Our neighborhood of roadrunners keeps the snakes in good order. I let Mother Nature take care of the majority of our pests. The overpopulation of deer are another story. When there are no crows, the HW100 is a joy on action targets set up at 50 yards.
