One Lump, or Two (Rings)?

So I’m looking for the sweet spot ( I would ask you to pardon the pun, put I meant it) in cost/quality/lack of fussiness for mount options. Here are the specifics:

  • Gun - Hatsan Flash .22 with its protruding magazines
  • Scope: Athlon 4-16 x 40 (not yet in hand)
  • purpose: usher invasive iguanas into the next plane

So right now I have dual mounts that just clear the bell from interference with the rotary magazine function. The scope I’m currently using is the ubiquitous UTG Bugbuster 3-9x32. It seems that since the Athlon is a bit longer than the UTG, the bell is going to clear the space that the magazine needs. Also, the UTG adjusts the parallax at the front while the new Athlon is a side adjuster. Makes it more easier (says the English major). My question is, am I missing anything? Is there anything that would make my setup a better shooter?

This is the nicest scope my retired/broke/cheap/ WAF-cleared buy has had. I want it to be worth it. From my studies I've learned it’s going to require significant cash to achieve significantly more improvement going forward. So far, with the resources I have at hand? I’m very confident you shouldn’t come around without asking first, unless you’re a too-big lizard. Then you’re very welcome.

Crazy fun hobby, amirite?

I see you haven't received any responses and I'm trying to figure out a clear-cut question here but it seems like you're wondering if there's any difference between two piece or one piece mounts. As long as you have adequate height to keep all of your scope surfaces above working surfaces of your gun,I don't think it will matter for you.

If you had a recoiling springer, for instance, subject to reversing stresses on each shot cycle, then a one piece mount can be more stable. That does not apply to a (nearly) non-recoiling PCP such as your Hatsan flash. As long as your objective bell clears everything else forward of the magazine , including your slip-on scope cap, if any, you should be good.

I very much appreciate your responding. Since the post, I have received the scope and mounted it on the Flash. I found that a two-piece is a must for this scope. It is considerbly longer than the shorty BugBuster, so the front mount must sit in front of the magazine well. I had tall-enough crap rings to get it going, and I ordered some nice Vortex ones from Amazon, arriving tomorrow. Nevertheless, I zeroed it with the rings in hand quite well, and took 4 iguanas to the next plane just today. The Vortex rings sit just a hair higher than these, and these clear the magazine by about 1/8 inch. I'm hoping I can use it on my AR as well with those new rings, by just swapping it over and setting the turrets to a predetermined setting.

Fun stuff, no?
