One less thief.

Last year I had multiple problems with raccoons raiding my feeders and stealing the pecans when they dropped. Between them and the squirrels I barely collected a gallon bag of unshelled pecans. Normally the tree produces enough to fill over a 5 gallon bucket, and now I have a relatively young tree that's begun to produce as well so that means even more lost.

Tonight after I did some lawn work I decided to play the waiting game afterwards. All 4 of the batteries for my red lights were charged up and ready to go. So I threw out a can of sardines for bait and hunkered down. I sat for 2 hours and listened to the occasional rustling of brush and limbs until finally this raccoon came out. Instead of going for the bait it actually went straight for my biggest feeder. I hit it with the light and instantly it dropped from the tree the feeder was on and ran straight to my big pecan tree. I let it get up about 20 feet before I hit it with light again from about 15yds out. One click of the tongue and a .22 Crosman HP between the eyes later and it down for the count.
