I have an old tomcat forcing himself on me, right now. He is 19 years old and has been one of my best hunting partners, ever. He wants to be petted and loved. I cannot tell him no, as tomorrow may not exist for him. We must love the creatures who love us. We must take care of them, until death. Bob is 19+, years old.

That's a good solid long life for a cat. I had two cats growing up, but one was clearly 'mine'. She lived to 23+ years old even after a few strokes and living the last few years deaf. The other was a nasty persian who hated everyone but he made it to 21.
I've had cats since, but none of them lasted over 13-15 years and ended up sick with multiple cancers - not pointing fingers, but I think it's the low quality in the pet food industry that reduced their health and lifespan.

We just lost our Hanna a rescued greyhound around 13yo...I bet I walked her 10000 miles in her life...I walked her when I had covid at 10* and never missed a day. I'm a cat person too, Mr.

Milo is a relatively young cat (22 pound manx) an only pet now...he is my buddy!
He likes to play "bug under the rug"!

I truly feel for you…I can cry on demand by thinking about some of my past companions. I mean that in the manliest of ways…life is good.

We lost our Joe two years ago, he was also 17. That's his pic in my avatar. The missus called him a dog cat, as he would greet me in the driveway when I got home from work and we also took walks every morning weather permitting. We were fortunate to be his humans.

You and Bob are ok in my book!

Our cat is 19 as well. She's got some issues, is going senile, and is forgetting where she put her litter box sometimes. It sucks, but messes can be cleaned and carpet can get replaced. She's been a great cat to put up with me... im usually not a cat person but she's basically like another dog. I used to rough house with her and she never got mad and attacked me. I just got done cleaning her ears for her since that was on the top of her list whilst I was brushing my teeth!

Our beagle is 17 and going downhill fast. Last 2 months She's barely eating and losing weight. Sleeping alot more. Vet says she's fine, just old. It's hard to see them waste away but when we rescued her at 4 months she was still the size of a 6 week old pup and had worms pouring out of her. We gave her the best life we could, hoping she holds til after the thaw out, so she can be buried next to her brother Tex, a 120lb rottie.(That was a big hole to dig!)

Lost our Pitbull a year ago to lymphoma at 11 years old. Picked her out at 4 weeks, I miss her every damn day.

I feel for ya...had to walk the walk last September.. sat through the whole thing with him... As I didn't want him alone and scared with strangers in his final moments.
I did the same with Zoey my pittie last year. It's hard to do, it's the hardest kick in the nuts you'll ever have. She's on the shelf now with her sister who we had to let go almost ten years ago. She barely knew her, but just long enough to learn how to be an awesome dog.

Animals are far better at companionship and compassion than most humans nowadays.

I was never a big pet person. I totally enjoy other peoples pets though. We’ve had a cat, came with my bride, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, and most recent a cat. Needless to say when they passed it was sad. This past July this last cat, which we had for 16 years absolutely dominated and stole our souls. The day after she was put to sleep I heard my wife crying so hard in the basement that I thought I would have to call a doctor for a sedative. If we sat down, that cat was in your lap in seconds. She loved corn on the cob with butter and salt.

Sorry for your loss, thats too funny though about the corn. Most cats are food divas.
