Old Guy with pellet rifles versus Rodents

I am some what new to Airgun Nation, have been spendinding time here reading all the topics, watching videos and drooling over the classifieds. It is a good place for an old guy to hang out and practice social distancing, funny though, I rarely see anyone around where I live.so I am pretty good at it.

I have rats, gophers and an occassional ground squirrel to eliminate. My location is in the Sierra, not too high up and not too low just about perfect for a retired person. There are many other animals here on my place but they get a pass unless they become trouble makers.

I hunt almost everynight for rats (roof rats, huge ears and long fuzzy tails) don't always see any but enjoy sitting in semi concealed hide listening and seeing all the nightime stuff going on around me. My nighttime rile is a .25 Marauder with ATN X-Sight II 3-14, this set-up is heavy for me so I use an adjustable tripod and my comfotable shooting chair. I can spend hours at a time enjoying this routine. The rats like to live in my stacks of firewood, sometimes they expose themselves just enough for me to catch a glimpse of their glowing eyes and the Marauder takes care of business, I got a medium size male last night, easy 20 yard shot for my rig.

Yesterday I saw a ground squirrel mound next to a water trough that wasn't there the day before. I got my chair, tripod and .25 Crown and set up shop. Well it wasn't 5 minutes and a head raised up from the burrow and the Crown did its thing, a 30 yard eye shot, quick and humane kill.

This morning I went out on the side porch and I saw a gopher poke its head up next to a wood shed. A job for the Crown, 20 yard vital area hit and another gopher bites the dust.

I usually don't take pictures, but thought I might try and share my small adventure.

Thanks to all of you.

Yes, that rat is mising an inch or more of his tail. I have hay for livestock so some get a lot bigger eating all the groceries.

I am very fortunate to live here, worked hard and sacraficed a bit to make it happen.

There are lots of predators around, it amazes me how many rodents are here, guess that is why there are so many predators. Some how it all works out, mother nature has her ways and I try not to upset her. However when these rodents eat the wires on my equipment, undermine my foundations, spoil my hay and rob my fruit trees I defend my investments. I put up owl boxes, leave brush piles for what ever needs a safe place to raise families, water troughs for what ever needs a drink and I don't have dogs harrassing the wild animals.

Sorry started imposing my beliefs on the forum....
