I went to my parents place today to pickup some firearm reloading stuff since I'm paying more attention to the details of shooting because of Covid, and I have not seen them since this started. Among the things, the old Hurricane from when Jimmy Carter was President :) My Dad being who he is, I believe the stack of paper work is what it came with. The targets in the corner are what it came with. Have great memories of my old Crosman 760 in the basement with him and he was shooting this thing. Now, need to ask, what was in the holes of the packaging? Looks like a tin of pellets, but what did they ship with under the scope part and above the targets?

That's a really nice set! The Tempest and Hurricane are increasing in value these days, too, and you don't see nice early boxed ones much any more.

Just IMHO, these guns are vastly underrated...yeah they are not all cool machined steel like the classic Webley pistols of yore, but they are good-looking, good-shooting, ridiculously durable little airguns, with more power than the oldsters. And the Hurricane, if not as cute as the more compact Tempest, has better sights (click-adjusting rear, taller front, and greater sight radius) which are very worthwhile.

This photo is from the superb book, "Webley Air Pistols," by Gordon Bruce, and shows how the box works. Note your box is identical to this one, but has a removable insert behind the pistol to accommodate a future scope, instead of the insert where the scope rail fits, as seen in this picture (apparently one Insert was included, and the other omitted, depending on which sight option was purchased originally).

I've never seen the target holder mentioned in the caption, but would assume the shallow recess surrounding the target and sight storage is for that.

"R.B." Could very well have been...Robert Beeman. Or maybe an employee signing his initials for him, who knows, but the shop was still a fairly small enterprise in those days.

I currently have one each Hurricane and Tempest, love them and wish I'd held on to some of the others that have been through here over the years. My 'cane currently wears the rare "match" grips that Beeman sold for a few years.
