I've been having issues with POI on my Model 36 and I think I may have it figured out. First I thought it was my NEW SWFA 6x42 not holding zero but I just couldn't accept that. Then I thought it was a bedding issue but after I tightened all the screws and bedded the action in Scotch 130C I was pretty sure that the action wasn't moving about. Darn break barrels are all finicky as heck. Finally I just decided to work up an exact loading sequence at the bench. So I finally THINK I have figured out that my lock up wasn't exactly the same every time. That would explain the vertical stringing I was seeing. I'll have to do a video on the problem. I knew that some break barrels were sensitive to how they were closed but I didn't know this Model 36 was. After all that I shot this target:

Im not sure what you mean by lock up. But i know my springers are very hold sensitive. Especially when bench shooting. If you dont rest the gun on the exact place everytime your poi will change. I try to rest the gun on my hand and then put it on a bag to make sure it is always on same spot. Even cheek weld and how tight i hold it matters and it is different with each springer. Also loctite mounting screws. Sorry if im off base

When bench resting a break barrel I treat laying the rifle into the rest like its an egg. I have had some that if I just put it down into the rest like other rifles it would make a difference. Easy to test just shoot a target the normal way you would and then shoot one that you step up and pull up on the barrel after putting it into the rest. If your lockup is changing when putting it into the rest it will show up. One reason I started to buy only fixed barrel springers.

Thanks guys. I moved the scope to a different rifle today and it shot just fine. It is definitely the lockup. I managed a couple of pretty good targets with the 36 but I like am you Goodtogo, I'm just put off on break barrels. Next springer is going to be a 97k or a TX200HC and I'm leaning heavily towards the TX200. I'm going to pack up my D350 and send it out west to the grandkids. The 36 occupies a soft spot in my heart so I'll keep it and learn to live with it. The D48 and D460 shot splendidly today, as always.

Oldspook I was having issues with one of my break barrels when I snapped the barrel back ready for the next shot. With the barrel closed I could tap the end of the barrel and I could see it move up and down slightly at the break point.I replaced the jam spring with one slightly longer, problem solved. I'm not sure if this is your problem but it fixed mine. Now the barrel is slightly more stiffer when breaking an closing but it doesn't move when closed.
