Ok, once and for all is the FX Boss backyard friendly....

Why is everyone so concerned with "backyard friendly". If there is no ordinance against shooting your air rifle in your own backyard and you determine it is clear beyond your target, then I say its shooting time. As far as noise, it is no different than a barking dog, trimming trees with a chainsaw, mowing the grass, kids screaming and splashing in the pool. People make noise....that is life. Have fun with it. Don't let other people dictate how you enjoy your time.

Because, if you are not considerate to your neighbors then you can't expect them to be considerate to you.

Also, just because there is no ordinance against shooting now, doesn't mean somebody can't create one if they get complaints followed by support to stop it.

And... many of us have families who don't want to hear BANG, BANG, BANG all Sunday afternoon when they are trying to relax.

And, we have our hearing to think about

And, in many cases, the law is not 100% clear and whenever someone can choose to interpret it one way or another, it is best not to draw attention and potentially create trouble for yourself.

And, regardless of the law, drawing attention might make somebody call the police and tell them about the man with a gun, so you could end up getting shot when they don't realize it's an air gun, like that guy in Walmart. He picked up an air gun off the shelf and was holding it while talking on his phone. Some lady called the police and they shot him dead. They never even faced any charges for it.

Plus, we don't want to scare away all the game in the area with the first shot.

So, it's in everyone interest to keep it quiet, discrete and low key so it can continue unregulated and under the radar, where we all like it.

"johnp"Well, i really didn't expect that many replies. What I plan on using the for isn't just sitting out there & shooting all day. The gun will be sighted in
( however many shots that takes)
Once the gun is sighted in it will stay in the gun cabinet until a coyote comes into my yard, that is my main reason for buying this gun. I have an 8 year old and a 10 year old
And my neighbor just started raising chickens, so now I have coyotes in my yard every now and then. I just don't want them to get too comfortable back there.
I think the OP's reason for getting the FX Boss .30 as he explained above is getting lost in the noise of everyone throwing in their opinion without a thorough read of the OP's posts. Understandable why he ordered it, and yes a friendly conversation with the neighbors ahead of time could alleviate potential problems. It all depends on the neighbors, the relationship and how its explained...

For me my definition of backyard friendly is do you have any houses within line of sight behind your house? The boss is quiet enough to be shooting 75 yds away you don't hear much noise. The big thing is what's behind you. And is it secure. Some people think that they have a block wall to shoot against so that is safe. Well what if you have an accidental discharge like one of your kids touches the trigger when the barrel is raised and the pellet is heading towards the horizon. Lots of people I see shooting in the backyards wouldn't be acceptable to me especially with anything over 18 ftlbs. I watch a YouTube guy that shoots his rifles and pistols with suppressors in his back yard hi neighbors obviously don't care and from the looks of it his back yard is on the edge of a swamp. I think if you are concerned about your neighbors and you can't just go very and ask them then don't do it. My neighbors come over and shoot with me so I'm good

Pellet's impact is the most alarming sound in a cookie-cutter neighborhood where homes are typically 60 ft apart at the sides.

@wadcutter...there's typically "some" kind of ordinance regarding discharging an air rifle (I guarantee if you contact the powers that be in your area). On Long Island I had to get a signed petition from my bordering neighbors excusing me from any noise I may make firing. I still try to keep it quiet because as soon as the pellets start slapping the backstop the curtains start cracking open.
I really do envy you guys with massive amounts of shooting range.

Well,
I received my FX Boss 2 days ago and got to shoot it today,. I had the carbon fiber bottle installed before they shipped it out , this gun (even with the scope installed) is very light! And by the way EXTREMELY QUIET! Of all my guns , 22 R1 ,22 daystate reagal xl, 25 daystate air ranger, 25 airforce talon this 30cal. Boss is on par with my 22 regal xl VERY quiet!
I highly recommend it !
