"Wadcutter"Why is everyone so concerned with "backyard friendly". If there is no ordinance against shooting your air rifle in your own backyard and you determine it is clear beyond your target, then I say its shooting time. As far as noise, it is no different than a barking dog, trimming trees with a chainsaw, mowing the grass, kids screaming and splashing in the pool. People make noise....that is life. Have fun with it. Don't let other people dictate how you enjoy your time.
Because, if you are not considerate to your neighbors then you can't expect them to be considerate to you.
Also, just because there is no ordinance against shooting now, doesn't mean somebody can't create one if they get complaints followed by support to stop it.
And... many of us have families who don't want to hear BANG, BANG, BANG all Sunday afternoon when they are trying to relax.
And, we have our hearing to think about
And, in many cases, the law is not 100% clear and whenever someone can choose to interpret it one way or another, it is best not to draw attention and potentially create trouble for yourself.
And, regardless of the law, drawing attention might make somebody call the police and tell them about the man with a gun, so you could end up getting shot when they don't realize it's an air gun, like that guy in Walmart. He picked up an air gun off the shelf and was holding it while talking on his phone. Some lady called the police and they shot him dead. They never even faced any charges for it.
Plus, we don't want to scare away all the game in the area with the first shot.
So, it's in everyone interest to keep it quiet, discrete and low key so it can continue unregulated and under the radar, where we all like it.
