Offhand Groups with Huben K1 .22

These groups were shot with JSB Jumbo 15.89 grn Diabolo pellets offhand at 50 yards. There were 2-8 mph wind gusts (diagonal crosswind). Scope used is a Vector Veyron 4-16x44 FFP IR at 6 x magnification.

For a minute I was in the zone. The rest of this group looks like crap.

For comparison this is the only group shot off sticks. My arms got tired because I’m out of shape. This gun is heavier than what I’m used to and it feels front heavy.

This groups is a result of me shooting offhand trying to judge wind with no flags only using plants.

These aren’t great groups and this I why I make it a point to punch paper. I haven’t had time to shoot much this year.

Here’s a photo of the gun taken another day.

Here’s some shot string data for those who may be curious.

Don't feel bad, even in my late teens/early 20's when I fired a couple thousand+ 308 every month practicing for cmp service rifle, offhand is always what held me back. I got pretty good prone and sitting, but offhand it seemed I barely got better no matter how much I practiced or how much help/tips/coaching I got from some service men that competed. Never got my distinguished marksman badge only due to my offhand shooting. grrrrrrrr.

I'm SURE that's better than I could do Dave! How's that Huben with slugs? Tried it?
@Gerry52 I have but haven’t tuned for them. I am currently shooting 35 grain slugs around 800 fps. They hit with authority and handle wind well. I’ve only shot them around 50 yards out. I haven’t taken her out to shoot long range yet.

I like to try shooting off a proper stick, when i last tried it, it was pretty OK i think i even shared a pic, but the stick i used was a piece of wood with a clamp attached to it, and i was also leaning on our shot shed.
Shot with my Cyclone.

I remember that my Maverick it shot like that from the bench the moment i wanted to shoot anything but Beast pellets at speed.
so a large very ragged hole, with some shots completely off in random directions.

At sub 600 FPS ( factory setting ) the new Maverick was okay at 50 M shoting from the bench, shooting as i would expect,,,,, just way too slow. ( 14.43 gr monster redesigns at 575 FPS 90 bar / HS #7 )

I especially like that 10 shot group on the Left, i was aiming for the number 3, so most pellets in a nice small not too ragged hole and then 2 that drifted a little away ( probably wind and me pulling the one up )
5 shot group on top also OK, also aiming for the number 3 i think after 1 click adjustment sideways, just too bad that last shot dropped 4-5 mm

PS that top paper, had i not been leaning too on our shot shed, i doubt i would have had very many shots just on the damn paper.
My old 6 foot 3" are a bit wobbly even if there are a stick to "carry" the rifle.

@Peashooter What do you mean by “shot off a proper stick?” Also I think we’re on two totally different pages here. I don’t like shooting from tables or a bench. If I’m seated I prefer to sit on the ground. Shooting from a bench/table really serves little purpose for me other than testing various projectiles, tuning, or establishing a baseline for a gun’s capabilities and consistency.

I am a hunter. I practice with practical application in mind. I’m not into shooting targets for consistently tight dime sized groups, to brag, or compete with others. Although when I do shoot a tight group I have to admire it for a moment and I sometimes share them. I tend to focus on my ability to kill and recover animals with consistency. Usually the first and second shots are the ones I’m concerned with, particularly the first.

In my initial post my aim is to share results on a not so great day for me. I think it’s good to show results of and discuss our ok and bad days. I see wayy too many posts of shooters’ best groups. I could have easily posted tighter groups at the same distance shot with the same gun using a tripod. In a sense posts like this are a form of advertisement (not in a commercial sense). I selected this gun because I watched videos of others shooting and hunting with this gun and I read many AGN posts over a period of months. If someone reads my posts on a gun or some gear I aim to be realistic as possible so I don’t mislead a person in their perception of a product they may desire to purchase. Furthermore this thread is concerned with the Huben K1. Mine is chambered in .22. Have you shot a Huben? If so, can you share your experience(s)?

Well TBH i am not sure what constitute a proper shooting stick today, i would assume something telescopic, or at least something better than a piece of 1.5 X 3" wood with a clamp on it.

I just did a quick duckduckgo search and i can see even huge tripods are in the shooting stick catagory here, and there are also some weird 2 leg ones it seem.
But for me a shooting stick are just 1 leg.

When i get around to play field target, well for sure there will be no standing targets,,,, ever, and i also think i will lay off lying down as the grass at my friends place are often a few feet tall in most places.
So some kind of seated position, maybe with a elbow on a knee.
That is i assume so, i think i am desperately disregarding my body's less and less flexibility.

Before i buy some drop down silhouette targets i think i better try with just a pellet tin on a rope or a stick.

100 % off hand and i would not be able to hit a barn door at 50 ( M or yards ) simply too wobbly and not at all trained in shooting that way, and as i do not hunt i see no reason to start training to shoot like that.
But i do know hunters go a long way most often to have some form of support, and i very much understand that if they are anything like me.

I have not tried a Huben K1, not even handled one, but it is my understanding they are by no means at all bad guns.
For sure i would jump to the chance of shooting one, also offhand if need be, just not expecting to hit anything then.

Shooting off hand is a art, I watched some whiskey guys shooting off hand really impressed me, Back in my days 50 years ago I was a instinct shooter with jackrabbits and rim fire 22 caliber , If you don't use it you lose it. I got a Huben 22 coming in a few days I will start practicing , My electric barra BB gun got me doing the point and shoot thing,, Very fun with a semi auto.
