Off center Picatinny Rail

Since you probably don't want to do anymore drilling on the stock to enlarge the hole what about taking a small round file and elongating both holes on the picatinny rail. Probably just need to go in opposite directions on them to hopefully give you enough wiggle room to let you straighten it out. The screw heads will probably cover up the elongated holes as well. That's what I would try anyway.

Whether mis-drilling / tapping in wood, metal, etc..
If you don't get the correct angle/location, it's best just to start over..
Sometimes, trying to adjust/tweak things works, but other times, it makes things much worse..

Filling a wood stock, you can use 2 part epoxies like JB weld for best/fastest results..
The activators/catalyst will help speed up the curing process and make it consistent..
1 part glues / fillers will work also, but IMO not as well, or, just may take longer to set/cure.

My best advise for doing an accessory pic rail would be to remove the stock,
secure it in place, and step up bit sizes using a drill press - for a perfectly aligned & level/plumb hole..

Measure twice - Cut/Drill once. 😃

Hi,

I installed a picatinny rail for a bipod on my crown wooden stock. It came out a bit off center 😅 Now, I can either find a solution or just leave it useless there. Any suggestions?

I know you're laughing bud but we all can read the underlying emotion (@#&!!!).

I'll just assume your bipod doesn't swivel. I concur with the fill and redrill and second the epoxy fill method. Put blue tape over your stock to protect, find the centerline, and "lightly" counterpunch the penciled center marks from your rail holes once they're transferred to the tape. Small drill to start a pilot hole and creep up to final in like two size increases. Best of luck. You can do it!

Thanks to all the responses fellow airgunners!

Ok, so I thought about refilling with JB weld. I bought it and I was ready to do so but got cold feet lol.

It took some effort but filing the rail worked fine. Still had to reduce the rails' holes with epoxy to support the bolts.

All good now.

Even though it was off center, I believe my biggest problem was the bipod. It was a poor imitation for atlas bipods, poor call on my part but I work with what I can find in the markets here. I managed to buy some UTG 360 bipod and the are very very stable.

Thanks again! I still might redrill later as the rail looks ugly as f***

I like how you describe the emotions part 😂😂

I assume your off just a little. Fill existing holes with epoxy or wood product from Lowe's, Home Depot type store then redrll and the reinstall should cover the fixed area.

Fill in the holes with JB weld then re-drill

+1 for the JB Weld.

I prefer the "JB Clear-Weld" over the regular "steel-looking" product for stuff like this for a few reasons. First, it sets up clear so it's easier to blend it's appearance. It also has a slightly higher bonding strength than regular JB Weld. Theoretically it should be every bit as strong as the wood, or stronger after it cures. It stinks to high-heaven when you first mix it though. I use it for repairs, glass-bedding in stocks, etc. It's very reliable for my uses.

It's definitely a much tougher option than wood/plastic putty.
