October 1 TEXtreme Bench-Rest Silhouette Match Report

With some TEXtreme regulars departing early for Airgun Of Arizona's Extreme Bench-Rest festival (next weekend), others acquiescing to family responsibilities, and yet others attempting to leverage both excuses, attendance at Saturday’s TEXtreme Bench-Rest Silhouette competition was somewhat dilute. However, Mother Nature sweetened the deal with such a fine day as makes One feel alive almost to the point of intoxication. But to not overdo the blessing, She added just enough barbiturate to prevent the revelers overdosing on giddy. Shifty winds were trickier than velocities would suggest. One soul in attendance almost did overdose on giddy; Maggy enjoying the fine company and weather like a frisky young colt!

Half of the six competitors contested only one class; the other half, two or three classes. All six contested the 80 FP pellet class, three contested the 35 FP pellet class, and three contested Slug Class. After kicking Chuck Norris’ ass earlier in the day, TWICE

, Jim Martin only managed to win two of the three classes at Saturdays BRS match.

He started by prevailing in the 35 Foot Pound pellet class, nudging me by one point. JM posted a fine 29/40 with his Athlon-scoped Daystate Safari, shooting 18.1 grain .22 pellets 925 FPS. He captured not only the much coveted (35 FP) Match Winner hat-pin for his efforts, but a ten-in-a-row rams pin; no small feat in the lowest-power class. Excellent shooting, Jim.

I was second with a 28/40, shooting my Bushnell Legend scoped Brocock Bantam Sniper on power level 3 (of 4). PL3 keeps me just below the 35 FP limit, launching 18 grain Air Arms pellets 925 FPS.

Foiling Superman’s… I mean, Jim Martin’s near dominance, Brian Stafford captured the 80 Foot Pound pellet class Match Winner hat-pin with an excellent 33/40. He also won a ten-in-a-row pigs hat-pin. Brian used a .22 FX Impact with a Nightforce scope, shooting 25.39 grain JSB Redesigns at 970 FPS. Fine shooting, Brian!(y)

Jim Martin was second in the 80 FP class with a 29/40 score, also shooting .22 Redesigns at 970 FPS in his Athlon scoped Daystate Safari. Good shooting, Jim.

As mentioned earlier, after kicking Chuck Norris’ butt TWICE Saturday morning, and our butts in the 35 FP competition, Jim Martin closed a fine day of ass kicking

by doing it again in the Slug class. This time he used a .30 AGT Vulcan 3 wearing an Athlon scope and shooting 40 grain H&Ns at 925 FPS to post an excellent 33/40… let’s just say “WELL clear” of the rest of the field. He also shot ten-in-a-row pigs with his slug-shooter. Great shooting, JM.

I just called him to check on details of his equipment for this report, and Jim is already in Arizona. Consequently, Chuck Norris can rest easy and nurse his wounds for a few days.

But to all those shooters contesting Extreme Bench-Rest, Chuck asked me to pass along a message for him. “Be afraid”…
