Nuoge Compressor

@Normkel Can you tell me the size power supply used to power your Nuoge compressor, 12 volts at what current? Thank you.

Power supply voltage 13.5 VDC 42 amp

Compressor Draw:
Fans - 1.2 Amp
Running no load -10.5 amp
Running loaded range 3,000 to 3,500 PSI 15 – 23 amps.

For comparison, my GX CS3
Fans operating only 2 Amp DC - 0.2 Amp @120 VAC
Compressor operating near 3500 PSI – 20 Amp DC – 2.3 Amp @120 VAC

@Normkel Extremely helpful. I had purchased a 12v, 350 watt supply, but it couldn't handle the start-up surge of the compressor. The 500 watt one, obviously now, can. The meter I used to measure the start current, when using a battery, only showed 27 amps. It obviously didn't catch the true peak current like it is claimed it can do!

It is too long past the time when I remembered these things, but I recall that the peak capture for a meter is/should be shown in the meter's specifications. I got caught on a similar issue when we were living off the grid and had to address a water jet pump burning out the starting winding when other heavy loads were on the generator.

One of the electrical instructors where I was teaching, identified the problem with an amp clamp and oscilloscope that reacted more quickly than my meters.

That reminds me to check my meter specifications again and see if I still have my amp clamp and can remember how to use my oscilloscope.

I have two meters that have the ability to check inrush current. I had to go back and review the instructions for both (too many functions per button on these digital meters!). I was able to get a reading of 112 amps on one, and 90 amps on the other, for inrush current. The 27 amps I got the first time was because I had the meter in the wrong mode; when all else fails, read the instructions!!
