NSA slug diameter recommendation

I am wanting to order some NSA slugs for the 2 below rifles and thought someone might already know the best diameter to use. These are both .22 cal rifles. I don’t have to use the same sized slug for both, I would rather have the best for each individual rifle. The slugs will be used for mainly hunting and I want maximum shock out to around 75 yards. I would also be interested in knowing what weight would work the best.

Daystate Pulsar .22 High Power. This has the ART barrel and it’s making 50 FPE on high setting. I know Daystate has the new NSA slugs but I am waiting until I need more items from AOA since shipping two tins will cost me $23 freight and they are extremely behind on shipping orders due to demand. I will just order what NSA has that works best for now.

Taipan Veteran .22 long CZ barrel with power plenum and tune. This one is pushing 45 FPE.

Taipan Long, .22, Power Plenum and 700mm CZ Barrel. I have that exact same setup. LONG story short -- NSA .216's (<--- TWO ONE SIX!!), 27.5g running at 983'ish fps. It's pushing 60 ft/lbs and is a laser. *ANY* slug heavier than .23g I had to go down in diameter ( I have no idea why - don't ask - lol ) to .216. 23g .217's - both NSA and H&N's are also lasers. As soon as I went heavier ( 25g jsb knock outs for example ) - it went to hell. I'd HIGHLY recommend the $5 sample packs that NSA offers now to find what yours will like. .218's in any weight didn't work. ( for me )

Doesn't NSA ship for $7.99 regardless of size?

Yes, please re-read my post. It was AOA that wanted $23 to ship two tins of the Daystate branded NSA slugs that are supposed to be made specially for the ART barrel I have. That’s why I was asking about what diameter of NSA slug I should buy. NSA will not sell you the slugs they make for Daystate, these are proprietary to Daystate and I’m sure they have some sort of contract obligations to not sell that particular slug to anyone but them. Daystate also doesn’t list the diameter of the slug, probably on purpose. I did already email NSA for recommendations but they haven’t replied yet and I am sure it’s because they are covered up with orders. I was wanting to get something ASAP, I have a fox that has decided my chickens would make a good meal. I have pellets I can use but wanted something to hit as hard as possible at longer range.

That’s extremely detailed information and what I was looking for, thank you!

@cannonball - welcome. One other thing ( now that I'm seeing this ) -- regulator at - honestly I forget . . . lol -- 130 - 135'ish. I swapped out the taipan oem reg for a huma - it was just easier to work with when I was setting it up.

I have a couple questions, is there anything else done to yours besides 700mm barrel, plenum and Huma? You are getting about 15 FPE more than I am and would like to get there too, I absolutely love this rifle and am willing to drop some coin on it.

@cannonball - oh yeah. Check with Tony @TalonTunes re: the heavier hammer spring - sometimes referred to as the truck spring in here.

So ... I think that's it. ( ... remembering what I did with mine )

1st - I got the heavier spring / 2nd - after not being able to get consistent fps tune out if it I got the huma and shot it like this for a couple of months. Lastly I got the pwr plenum and longer barrel - they both went on at the same time. This was unfortunately only a little while before daylight savings kicked in and the weather took a dive. The last time I was able to use it though I had it running at previous numbers - .216 27.5g NSA's @983 fps and shooting really well. More tuning / refinement coming ... when the weather breaks.

I ordered the nsa 17 gr .2175 slugs for my Cayden, I will let you know how they perform.

SO I was able to try the nsa 17.5 grain x 2175 DIA. slugs in my Cayden, 1 " target shooting 40 yards 1/2 power setting , and man did they shoot nice, tight groups, laser accuracy when I do my part. they fit in the magazine good and seated in the barrel nice as well, I plan on trying some more grain choices soon!
