NSA .250X38.9

FYI JUST GOT MY ORDER 38.9 & 34.9

Went out in the cold and wind to try them out. be advised the 38;9 will not cycle in the magazine of my impact nor maverick. too long. these ( i believe) are the new batch that nick was developing and posted about recently here. correct me if I'm wrong! Just trying to save you from ordering something that won't fit your FX. I have tried in my cricket and since I put it away. probably won't!!!!

Im just getting into slugs a little heavier. still a novice. impact has an STX barrel and I'm not expecting too much until I get a superior. However, the KO slugs shoot extremely well @ 940 x 50 yds. I haven't had the weather to run the 100 + that needs to be tested.

the maverick shoots the NSA 29 and FX hybrid well also. I have the short barrel Maverick. just praying for "False Spring" in a week or so to get out and get the distance runners going.

That's odd, since the .25 NSA 43.5 grain fit and function in my Impact magazines. Although I do have the "Orion" inserts in them. I know the 43.5 is longer than the 38.9. One thing, the new 38.9 and 34.9 NSA .25 cal. are dish base slugs, whereas most of the other heavier .25 NSAs are flat based. Its been my (and other's) experience that the heavier flat base shoot better in the FX guns. I shoot the 43.5 at 900 FPS from a Slug A liner.

Just for kicks, here is a picture of the 43.5, 38.5 and 34.9 grain NSA slugs. The 43.5 and 38.5, far left and center are the old design vs. the 34.9 grain on the right which is the new design. The new design has a smaller hollow point and are made with a dish base. The original design have a larger hollow point and flat base. All fit in my Impact magazines, with and without the aluminum, center inserts.

Thanks for starting this discussion. I have a feeling the 38.9’s wouldn’t fit my side shot mag either. It would be very close.

The 34.9’s have shot really well for me so far too though. I shoot the 29.0’s mostly and after just a few magazines of 34.9’s I may have found something I like more. I’ve tried everything Nick makes from 26.8 - 36.2 (so not everything). 29.0’s had been the most consistent for my setup.

Impact MK-II PP 700mm, superior standard liner, slug power kit and an ER Port. 935fps,130bar, hammer 17.0mm @ MAX. I’m shooting on setting 5, valve 7.4mm. That’s my setup for 34.9’s.

I don’t have pictures of groups but these things were stacking on top of each other on an aluminum plate @ 65 yards. Hope I get a chance to take them out farther. The only variable in this whole situation is a better bipod and rear bag setup that I started using at the same time I switched to this new ammo. So it’s possible the 29.0’s will do just as good as these just haven’t shot them since.

Nick makes some great slugs
