NSA .22 + Bantam “Patagonia“

I was contemplating getting the NSA slugs sample pack to play with, but 18.99 + shipping seems like relatively a lot of money just to play around. Especially with all the info about how slug need different twist rate, barrel, etc. With the holiday coming up + free time, I thought I’d bite the bullet (figuratively) and get one, see what the hype is all about. NSA shipped them out super fast, and I am glad I got some!

The slugs comes in a nice sturdy box and individual heavy gauge bags:

Straight out of the box, I am impressed with the quality of each projectile. They are very shiny and uniformed. Projectile gain length as they gain weight. All of them have a “dish” base except for the 28.5 , which has a flat base:

Setup: Stock Bantam Patagonia on high power, single shot tray, at 25yds with ATN 4K at 14x. Prone on bags, Silent Thunder Ordinance Plium moderator.

I shot from right to left, top row first, light to heavy. The one hole at around 7oclock of the upper right target is a test shot, so disregard that one. A few caveats before making any judgements on accuracy: ATN is the not the best scope to shoot groups with; The trigger for the bantam is not tuned either, so it’s still pretty heavy; I don’t have much experience with how the STO Pilum have on accuracy; Lastly and most importantly, I am not that good of a shot.

5 shot groups average FPS:

17.5 - 956
20.2 - 930
23.0 - 897
24.8 - 855
27.5 - 828
28.5 - 816

Overall, looks like the heaviest 3 are the most promising. The lightest ones are completely out of contention, at least for max power. Now after I clean the barrel, make a few adjustments, groups will probably look even better further out.

In conclusion, I just want to share my experience. I felt like the sample pack is worth the money if you are interested in slug. If you find out it’s not your thing, you won’t have a ton of unusable ammo sitting around. The pack quickly narrowed down my choices, this served its intended purpose very nicely.

The bantam is new to me. If you shoot a bantam hp variant and have advices/notes you don’t mind sharing, I’d love to hear them!

Thanks NSA! Happy thanksgiving everyone!
