Results November Ranchito Robinson Bench-Rest Silhouette Match Report

With the weather forecast calling for cool temps and LIGHT WINDS, my prediction of high scores at the November 5 BRS matches seemed a pretty safe bet. Thankfully I’m not a betting man.

It was still cool at our noon start time, and the winds seemed benign enough. However the wind flag soon not only developed a bad habit of pointing polar opposite directions every few seconds, but at steeper angles as the matches wore on.

Since four of the five shooters contested both the 80 Foot Pound and 35 Foot Pound classes matches, I decided to allow new BRS shooter Faisal Kahn to also shoot his new .30 caliber FX Bobcat twice; both his score-cards in the 80 Foot Pound class.

Though a beautiful day for shooting, the increasingly tricky wind conditions took a toll on the scores; especially tormenting the 35 FP shooters!

John Tafoya prevailed for the 35 FP win with a 22/40 with his .22 Daystate Red Wolf shooting 18.13 grain JSBs near the power limit at 925 FPS. John’s RW is topped with a Helix FFP scope. Good shooting, JT.

Ron Robinson and Chuck Misenheimer tied for second in the 35 FP class with 21/40 scores. Since neither had any ten-in-a-rows, Ron prevailed for second place virtue of his high turkey count… of three! He used a .22 Daystate Wolverine topped with an Athlon Neros scope, shooting 18.1 grain FX pellets 880 FPS. Chuck used John Tafoya’s .22 Red Wolf.

Although the 80 Foot Pound class scores were also lower than usual, not nearly so dramatically. Ron Robinson managed to eke out a 35/40 score with his new .22 Red Wolf in its first competition, shooting 25.4 grain FX pellets at 970 FPS. The Wolf wears a Weaver V-16 scope.

Faisal Kahn finished second and third in the 80 FP class with his .30 FX Bobcat shooting 44.75 grain pellets. We don’t know what scope he used in posting a 32/40 and 30/40 for second and third places, respectively. Good shooting, Faisal. Matter of fact Faisal posted the only 2 ten-in-a-rows of the day; ten pigs on his 30/40 card, and ten chickens on his 32/40 card… after borrowing Chuck’s Red Wolf when Faisal’s Bobcat sprang a bad leak right before his last relay of the day. Thankfully he has already fixed the leaking fill valve, thanks partly to advice from his BRS friends.

Happy Shooting Y’all,

Ron

Excellent match and report Ron. I never knew BR would be so much fun! Great venue you have there and I look forward to more learning. A couple of pics.
